Nobody really knows with absolute certainty how nizoral works, so it's difficult to say why 1% is as effective as 2%. Seems to be beside the point anyway. I've read studies that show 1% to be practically as effective as 2%. What's important is that it works, not why it works. Just use it bro!

I just recently read a study for 1%. It was done at the end of 2005 or just this month, can't remember. Anyways, it did show that 1% was effective. I don't know if 1% is just effective as 2%.

I have tried it several times (2%) , but each time I stopped using after only a few applications. It changes the texture of my hair. I am not sure if it strips something off of my hair or adds something to it. I just know that the feel of my hair changes for the worse. Haven't heard anyone else complain about this.

My hair started thinning 4 years ago in college, my dermatologist suggested proscar and Nizoral 2%. He said the Nizoral 1% that you could buy at Walgreen's wasn't nearly effective as the 2% which in the U.S. requires a script. Long story short, I use the 2% 5 days a week and my hair is much thicker and sheds less. I keep it on for 10 minutes while I shave and brush my teeth.

I found some more info:

Topical ketoconazole (as contained in Nizoral shampoo) shows itself to have a "weak" anti-DHT binding affect in the scalp.

Positive results with Nizoral shampoo are often noted within a few weeks, whereas a pure anti-DHT affect may take a few months. It is therefore likely that Nizoral exhibits another method to its anti-hair-loss effect.

One such theory of Nizoral’s anti-alopecia effects may be on its activity upon sebum.

Sebum is a fatty substance that accumulates in the scalp around the hair follicles. It’s possible that the removal of sebum may help "unclog" the hair follicle and expose it to more nutrition from an improved blood supply, rather like unclogging a drain!

It is known that Nizoral can remove and reduce sebum deposits.

That would explain why the % of ketoconazole is not greatly significant - however I assume it would be "better" to use the 2% version as it would have slightly stronger DHT blocking potential.

Thanks, why the hell is 2% scripted.. Morons want to make more money. I dont see it being dangerous.

It contains a fingicide that is also available in a cream for applications to the skin. I would assume that this ingrediant is what requires a script regardless of which product it is in.

That is how I use it too. I use it twice a week (1%), and leave it sitting on my scalp while I shave in the shower. I am going to try rubbing some on my shoulder zits now, see if that works!

I used to use T-Gel, but I think the Nizoral works a bit better. I do wash it every day, but the other days I usually just use a small amount of baby shampoo.

I have a bit of a receding hairline, but I buzz it to 1/8th - but it is nice to know that some of it is still there :)

This is a good thread. I like that so many bros have done research on keeling the hair. That is what I call all-around committment!

So I'm about a week or so left on my current bottle of 1%, so should I just go ahead and stick with the 1%? or should I get the 2%? anyone else have more info to support either?

Also, does it help with hairloss from winny/masteron/tren? and other things like that??
