DrBermant said:Comfort after gynecomastia surgery depends on the problem to be treated, surgical technique, skill of your surgeon, and other factors. I prefer techniques that minimize bruising, swelling, and maximize comfort. Although each of my patients gets a prescription for Hydrocodone and Tylenol (Lortab which is like Vicodin), most patients seem to find Tylenol more than enough after surgery. Check out many experiences of pain / comfort after gynecomastia surgery here. The links on that page go to descriptions of their surgical experiences and recovery. A typical patient seems to take only a few Tylenol, non prescription pills after even a massive breast reduction or secondary surgery after another doctor's failed surgery.
By minimizing discomfort, my patients seem to get back to work, activities, and bodybuilding early. Do not get me wrong, this is still real surgery and you need to let tissues heal. It is just nicer starting out ahead of the game.
Hope this helps,

just an fyi, I have always had a high tolerance to pain medication, especially after surgery. This is the first time that I wasn't in pain after surgery. The doc gave me demeral post surgery whil I was laying there in the hospital. I didn't have any pain for about 10 hours, which for the first time, I was happy. I had lipo performed on the front abs and flanks , and believe me, he worked it pretty good (ultra-sonic lipo), and lipo on the chest. I was pretty beat up to say the least. The weirdest part of the post surgery pain wasn't in the areas that he performed lipo, it was on the entry holes, 2 front, 2 back, and I had pain (alot) in my lower back.
6 months out, I still have a lot of scarring (I always have had a problem with raised scarring etc) which I was instructed to deep massage the areas to help break it down. I held onto a lot of bloat in my legs, glutes, etc. I lost 11 pounds in 12 days! So .. call me a late healer...but hopefully I won't have to have a revision
