We do the same. Our shelter works with the city on "catch and release". We also place winter shelters around in areas for cats. And if someone is feeding strays, we give them food that is donated to us.
This is why it's so important to support local animal shelters. We run SOLELY on private donations and the money we raise at your fundraisers.

I like cats and dogs, but I am allergic to cats. So far my reactions aren't too serious, if my eyes swelling shut isn't serious. I'm going to have to agree with Bino on this one though, I've spent quite a bit of time around cats (bc I can't help it, they're cute) and my allergies are as severe as they always have been. So I really think the exposure cures allergies argument is just plain nonsense, no offense.

I do love cats, and I've been around some awesome, very human-friendly ones. I'm partial to dogs though for the reason some of you seem to like them less. I prefer the fact that I need to take care of a dog more than I would a cat. That's what I love about them, and I totally don't mind that my dog is a complete trouble maker.
 
Exposure is not nonsense! It's called "building an immunity", once the body is exposed, it attacked the un-identified pathogen and then builds antibodies against it so at the next exposure, the body can identify it hence not creating allergic reactions.
Not everyone will build an immunity, but it's very common.


I'm just happy when people love any animals.....cats or dogs, just treat them right and love them :-)

I'm sure some people's allergies do go away with exposure, I didn't mean you were lying or making it up. I just meant exposure won't cure everybody's allergies, like mine or I guess Bino's. :)

My twin sis is literally allergic to everything. Peanuts and soy, most plants and all animals she's been tested for besides chickens and horses, but my mom never wanted to give up her dog(s) for my sister's allergies. Long story short, my sister lived with our dogs her entire life obviously and was as allergic as ever the day she and I moved out.

if i'm around cats within the first 20 mins i get sneezy and sniffly.
within 30-45 mins my breathing get's real restricted and shallow
45 plus i'm having trouble breathing, breathes are labored and i feel woozy from lack of oxygen...i either have to exit into fresh air and tough it out while i recover, or if it is real bad, go to the ER so i don't hyperventilate and pass out, possibly ashixating (sp) myself.
how the fuk am i supposed to get immune when this is the outcome?
folks that think it is possible have never suffered with true cat allergies and have no idea of what it is like to not be able to breath, it sucks.

I dealt with a thousand plus dead human beings
but the animals don't know

Shit's scary, son. Me and my girl have discussed it as well. I'm super into my own space, even was in the college years. I have my own routines and don't like anyone getting in the way of those. But, some things are worth being flexible and adaptable.
