Gulp!!!! Boyfriend talking about moving in

blueta2

New member
I've lived alone for 12 yrs now and never lived with my ex, but my boyfriend is talking about moving in together in July.
I'm not sure I can ever live with someone ever again.
I love my space!

Am I going to end up an old, overweight, man hating lesbian eating tuna out of a can, with 25 cats all over me?

yes on everything but the tuna...you will be a angry vegan, and hostile entirely to the idea of slaughtering innocent tunas to provide you with cheap protein.

I'm almost there! I am about to become a vegetarian again.

Well, I've only known him close to 11 months, and I'm in the process of a new business and starting another new business, so not sure I can handle more!
Man, I sweat thinking about it!

I'm a Naturopathic Practitioner with my own client base business and now starting up a supplement business (on line and client base).

I can suggest some great natural antivirals/antibacterials to boost your immune system.
I used to get strep throat 5 x a day, bronchitis 1 a yr and a cold 2 c x year. I've not been sick (knock on wood), since March 2007 (not even a cold)

Let's here it. Here or pm works

no it will be congruent with the whole health approach

married folks tend to stay healthier and live longer

just sayin'

Really, I would think single folks live longer! Marriage is so stressful! I don`t come from a divorced family, Mom and Dadd married 55 yrs, yet my sister and I never got married

tell you what,Ill just hang out on your couch naked next time he shows up, then he wont ask to move in again

Sorry, I meant 5 x a year!

C: he was here anyway shoveling. In fact, it snowed all day and he shoveled 3 times and even shoveled the back of the yard so my cats and the strays had a path to hang out ;-)
Why pay for the cow when you get the milk? (did I say that right?) hahah

Oh and I guess the general consensus is I will be alone eating tuna out of a can!
I seriously even had a dream last night that he moved in and I kept dreaming someone was putting a pillow over my face.
Could be I need to be in the relationship longer first?

When the time comes you'll know what to do. Isn't this the same guy you weren't happy with on NYE? What kind of work does he do? How old is he and what type of relationship history does he have? I'm like a concerned sister

Yes, we had our first misunderstanding on NYE, but it`s all good. It was minor.
He's a truck driver class one, long and short haul
He's 42 (3 yrs younger than me)
His r/s history is as unstable as mine is. Both in long term failed relationships. He's always been with super passive women and I'm the first assertive woman he's ever been with. He's lived with more of his ex's than me! His last ex he was with for 2 yrs, he never lived with her.
I think once we get into our 40's, relationships get strange and complicated, or maybe not!

You should be thankful there's a man willing to live with you, seeing as how you are a 'crazy cat lady'.

J/K :)
Ahhh, she's only got 5, that's nothing!

Husband and I have so many strikes against us I've lost count, the toppers:
1. Our relationship started out of adultery, we were both cheating on our respective spouses.

2. I'm wife #3.

3. We have 6 cats (he LIKES cats too) ... don't know if that factors into anything but it seems to have some relationship bearing on these forums.

All that being said, we've been together nearly 18 years, we are still deeply in love and have plenty of passion. Considering he just turned 58 and I'm nearly 47, I ain't complaining!

That being said ... when you're young (under 30) you get used to compromising, so people who live together young get "used" to it and consequentially are better at it. A successful live-in relationship is about compromising in a way that doesn't leave you feeling screwed over and having empathy and compassion for your partner's point of view :whatever: (and vice versa).

Long story short, if you, as a couple, have compatible deal breakers you can negotiate everything else.

Awesome, thanks for the input!
Our relationship started out pretty shaky as well.
He loves my cats, in fact, we talk about getting more animals if we end up getting a bigger place!
He knows my 3 deal breakers, everything else is 100% negotiable. My deal breakers are; no cheating, no huge lies, no illegal activity. All else I can take
I think he's so damn HOT, he gets away with more than I would usually feel comfy with :-)

But glad to know you had a rough start but are making it work. Kudos :-)

he's cheating on you!

LOL...one is a deal-breaker for me. Of course, I don't just dislike them as animals, I'm also highly allgergic.

When I was dating, I would first ask the guy if he liked or was allergic to cats, if he was, I would not go out with him. Saves us both time.
Not everyone is a fan of cats, but they are awesome once you get to really understand them

The funny thing is, most people who are allergic find reasons to hate the animal :whatever: I'm allergic to crabs and lobster, I FUCKING LOVE crabs and lobster, both as food and as animals (they're really interesting)! But I know more people who are allergic to cats who have decided that cats are nasty, vicious animals than I can count on both hands and feet.

I call it "sour grapes syndrome."

I help run one of the largest Cat shelters in Montreal and at our fundraisers we get people showing up that do not even like cats. They come just for our awesome fundraisers and prizes and they will say "I'm allergic and hate them"
Often I say "humans fear what they don't understand"
And most times, if not in all cases, cat allergies go away once you've been exposed.
We've solved many cat (animal) allergies at our clinic
We have a client (female) who comes in with her BF. She is very allergic to dogs, but this guy has 4 and will not get rid of them for her (You go guy) so she is up to trying anything to work on the allergies.
We worked on her and she is now living with MR Stud with his 4 dogs.

My son is allergic to cats and loves them, owns one himself. As you've observed, it's an exposure thing. He comes to my house, he has problems and needs to take Claritin, has no problems at his home. He actually had no problems until he moved OUT of my house (I've always owned at least three cats).

One observation I've made about people who like dogs and hate cats, they don't want to bother to understand the difference in body language between the two species. Dogs are pack hunters, like humans. Cats are solitary hunters. Totally different body language, not helped by the fact that cats faces (not eyes) are not expressive. Sometimes explaining to people that cats express their emotions through positions and movements of their eyes, ears and tail and explaining that vocalizations are secondary to them (i.e., feral cats are virtually silent and cats who meow a lot are actually utilizing a second language for our benefit) makes a lot of difference.

Of course, some people are just closed minded idiots but I don't think they'll be at kitty fund raisers ...

Your bf "loved" cats before getting with you?

The defense rests.

He had cats, but is not a super huge cat lover. But when he's at my place, he plays with my guys and he is now also feeding the strays in his own back yard.
He's seeing there is more to cats than he thought and is starting to respect their uniqueness

I call it "sour grapes syndrome."

Definitely not sour grapes in my case, I just don't find cats terribly fun to interact with. A good dog (because I'm not blind, some are just retards who try one's patience) is so much fun to be around for me because of the way they read people's emotions/reactions and then come on board to help in any way they can. A good dog is the ultimate team player; like that guy who everyone in the locker room just loves because he'll do whatever it takes to help the team win with 100% effort.

For example, I can be hanging out at my parents' place with their Malinois, and if I see a squirrel and say 'squirrel' in a normal voice, she'll just look at it then go back to whatever she was doing. But if I say 'squirrel' with a hint of malice in my voice, she takes off like she's been shot out of a cannon and chases it off. Love how a smart dog picks up the nuance and acts accordingly. :)

hitman is right, most cats are too independant thats why typically dogs are better pets.

I rescued a cat that showed up on my steps as a 6 month old kitten, clearly some city asshat drove out and dropped him off. he was more cuddly than my dog. too bad I caught him sleeping on my baby and had to rehome him to my best friend. still see him though.

Glad you found the cat another home. Cats are better pets and because they don't need to be walked, they have cool characters, and you can leave them for days alone and they won't destroy your house.
Dogs are AWESOME too :-)

I don't like getting into the feline vs. canine discussion. It's like arguing that chocolate is better than vanilla :lmao:

A properly socialized cat that lives in a house with people that understand cat psychology is a very affectionate, compassionate, empathetic animal; every bit as loving as a dog (there are a LOT of people who have fucked up cats and it's entirely their own fault, they made the cat a nasty psycho). The fact is, many dogs are improperly socialized, neurotic and fucked up and it's all their owners faults, too.

I've owned just about every domesticated animal there is in my life, from the large to the small, if I haven't owned them personally I've worked with them. Cats are about the lowest maintenance critter there is and the ONLY pet I know of that can safely be left entirely alone for five to nine days (as long as they are in a safe environment and provided sufficient food and clean water). Dogs are like permanent toddlers and if you like to travel there is the continual need to arrange accommodations for them. You can't take them into some state and federal parks, refuges or onto most beaches. Plus my cats don't like dogs, so it's a no brainer. At my age I don't want any more responsibilities than absolutely necessary.

Cats are fuckin awesome. I didnt become a cat lover until I owned one but yeah, they are cool little creatures. I love dogs too though. You dont have to like one over the other. Love all animals. Kumbaya motherclucker

He's seeing that it's easier to get in my pants when he does it!!!

fyp

meh, those of you (the crazy cat lady crowd) that are seemingly indifferent to bros with cat allergies i hope get wrecked with the wheezing, sneezing, and running nose that happens with around cats.
it is not something you just grow out of or get over, shit makes me hostile to hear that, my family has been telling me that for years when i visit and can't go inside
"just get over it"
about an hour later i'm in the ER hitting a nubulizer cause i can't breathe, it is not something you get over or are some how able to live around...claritin, inhalers, all that shit doesn't work for me and never has.

Mom hated cats until one started to show up at her door very hungry, she fed it and took him in and all of a sudden loved cats! she rehomed him but it changed her perspective, I like them too but I like dogs waaaay better.

Why not just tell him you dont want to or you're not ready?

LOL!!! Funny video!
I can tell him once I make up my mind, but problem is, I am not sure I'll ever be ready! I know eventually, I will have to live with someone I am with, but will it been soon or when I'm 80?!
It's scary to me
