ground beef

can i gain well eating just a lot of ground beef, in the form of burgers...hamburger helper....goulosh, among others? i havent been eating too well lately, and im going to the store tomorrow to pick up a bunch of ground beef....what do you guys say?

Also, I was wondering about what would happen if someone ate tons of low fat foods, but a lot of food, and took a good fat burner and did cardio 2 days a week? could they gain muscle and still drop fat at the same time??? this is of course with lifting 4 days a week...

I eat alot of ground sirloin. I premake burgers, or crumble the burgers over greens to make steak salad, put it in with veggies or in an omelette. It's lean and versitile, and gives me the protein I want without alot of fat.

As for your scenario...I'm sure it's worked for someone. It wouldn't be my top choice.

I love ground beef either 93/7 or 90/10 and I especially like it with eggs.....mmmmm beefegg my special invention

I used to eat a pound of ground beef every day or two. It's relatively cheap and easy to throw into anything. Easy to get rid of excess fat if you want to do that, too. Unfortunately I got an old batch or something a couple weeks ago and wound up revisiting it for five hours later that night. :frog: Since then I've lost the taste for it, but just in time for back ribs to go on sale. :D

When I was in England a few years ago I ordered a burger that had a fried egg on it at some roadside stand, and it was actually really good. I had no idea what I ordered (didn't understand the guy's heavy accent) and wouldn't have eaten it if I wasn't hungry enough to eat roadkill, but I'll back IronLion's beef+eggs deal!

I can do without the red meat. I went months without having any and when I finally did break down I bought good filet mignon. Well, I used to really like this stuff but now I think red meat tastes like shit and it is hard on my stomach and slower to digest. I'm done with red meat. Here are my protein sources...

Chicken (tastes great using McCormicks Caribean Jerk seasoning)
Tuna
Salmon
Eggs (always whole)
Milk
Myoplex Deluxe

I believe red meat is overrated especially considering how lean chicken is and how excellent the fish oils are for growth.

Red meat has some amino acids that can't be replaced with the same quality in a supplement.

The only beef I eat is ground top sirloin, or london broil....very lean cuts.

I eat alot of chx and salmon too.

I will eat 2 whole eggs per day, and the rest whites.

I'm not big on milk though...don't need the carbs. At least not that kind.

agree with Spatts, sirloin is the way to go, its the leanest. I wouldn't cut out chicken and tuna though. I would get a good balance of the three.

I am like a baby with my milk. I know the skim I drink has 12 grams of sugar per serving but I am never dieting so I don't care. I have drank a gallon or more every day since I was little. I had my spine x-rayed recently the doc said it looked like a mountain gorilla...haha

I like milk. I just try not to drink it.

MMMmmm...unless I have a big fat PB&J sandwich (extra PB). Then you have to have a big glass of milk to wash it down. :D

Cows great source of nutrition. Milk and beef, two of my favorite things in the world. Yep I love me some cows.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Cheat day anyone.;)

You can make your own beef jerky too. Get a big london boil, trim off the fat, cut the meat into 1"X6"X1/4" thick slices. Hang 'em in your oven. Set the oven to 120-150 for 10 hours and leave the door slightly open. Voila. It dehydrates all of the water out so 3 lbs of beef makes about 1 lb of jerky. The stuff is almost 100% protein too, zero carb and very low fat.

Rich_S...I should kiss you!

THANKS!!!!

...spatts runs off to grocery store. ;)

You can season it many different ways before you put it in the oven too. Right now I'm eating some that are Habanero Teriyaki. It's like eating liquid fire they're so hot. ;)

You can buy a stainless steel rack for you oven along with all sorts of jerky seasonings here:
