what is a grand national?

The problem is that it has a decent engine, but the rest of the car is from GM's very worst period. Listen to your woman, this time she's got your back.

But even then, the GN had a supercharged V6 3.8 liter engine, so you don't have the same options for cheap power that you would with the usual GM 350 V8. And if you swap engines, it's not really a GN anymore.
 
Grand Nationals are fukin sik. My friends father use to build, modify, and race them. Acceleration like nothing else I have experienced in some of his cars, the skin on my face would wind up plastered all over the back seat taking off.

ah, thank you :) That thing is so nasty. He's been talking like forever about how fast they are. I dont care. I dont wanna be associated with one of those ever.

i like em , they are fun to drive and i love the 80's regal body style.

i used to have an 85 limited , shit was dropped and on wheels. by far teh most comfortable car i have ever ridden in.
 
I'm amazed that you kiddies can look at that square lump and say "classic style". That was one of the very worst periods in US auto history for "style". It must suck to have grown up in an age where auto design is so stale that you can look back on that mediocre piece of crap and say "classic".

The GN did have good speed, and even though it's a highly tuned supercharged engine, apparently there is still more speed that can be eked out of it. Too bad that accelleration is the ONLY thing that car has going for it.

Agreed, handles like a tub of water on wheels. Even if you modify the suspension and add Corvette brakes its still a pig.

what is wrong with the Jetta? That was my baby. It would have been better if I had the Passat or Golf 4, but hey....
 
I remember shortly after they came out. Some guy was takin off, punched it, 0-60 in something like 5 seconds. Couldn't handle it & t-boned a limo with a wedding party in it. Killed most, including bride & groom. I've hated em ever since.

Anyone remember the GNX??? Only 500 made..something special about them over the regular GN..... I don't care what anyone says..the GN was the shit back in the late 80's. I almost bought 2 of them back then...but common sense prevailed....

Grand Nationals are cool, but they aint cheap as everyone wants them.

I'm more of a late 60's muscle car fan myself.

I hate that style car, also hate the old z's... My X used to go thru them non stop. The only older car that I liked the body style of was the 70' nova

yep - straight line is where its at

I had an 87 GN but it was the GNX model that I switched the boost on to give it 15 pounds.

0-60 was sick for a car that heavy and running a v-6....sub 5 seconds
 
I got on the track 3 times with the nova, that was whew.... back in 94-95 I believe.

Now that was a rush, but my reaction time sucked ass big time. LOL... but I didn't red light.

Swapping a 350 into a Grand National would be heresy. GN's run 14's in stock trim and with very little modification into the low 13's. There is no way to get that kind of performance with a 350 w/o serious mods. When the turbo spools in second gear at 25mph, and blows away the tires... yee haa... :evil:

There's nothing quite like the feeling in the seat of your pants when your sitting behind the wheel of a car with a big block and a lumpy-ass cam. . .even at idle it makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck.

Now you're talking some buh-be-buh-be-buh-be-buh-be. . .bucks. I helped a buddy build a 383 that we installed in a 1984 Camaro. . .fun car. Plus, whenever he took it down the alley behind his garage, the FlowMasters set off every car alarm he went by. :)

I remember that sucka. In CT the State Police purchased a few for unmarked traffic control. They would just haul ass after speeders or on emergency runs. Sharp lookin car. These were all BLACK on BLACK with blacked out windows.
 
I had a 71 chevelle with a 350 in it.
2.02 heads, holley street avenger carb (had to be rejetted cause it was restrictive), 3.55 rear end, B&M shift kit. Really lopey cam

It was a fun car I must say.

I don't care how fast a car is in a straight line, if it won't go around corners it is useless to me.
