I went on one GPS Geocache hunt in the Ocala Natnl Forest and had great fun and a good challenge finding the buried cache.
Anyone else ever hear of or try GEOCACHING ?

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.

I give them the lat and long to where my vast supply of roids are hidden,, I wonder what they will leave me?

That's a pretty cool way to used your GPS,,I guess.

I just asked the same question here about a week ago.

I went 2 miles into the woods last weekend, only to end up not being able to find the cache, and to top it all off I got covered in ticks to boot.
I did see 3 deer, about 7-10 turkeys and a skunk though, which was pretty cool.

It's not as easy as one would think as most GPS units will only get you to within say 3-7 meters of a location- Long/Lat/Min.
The person placing the cache also could have mis-posted the coord. due to errors on their GPS.

My favorite was one cache stashed about 1/4 off the main road in an old willys jeep sunk half in the Mud.
Stashed in the glove box was a cylinder of small stuffed animals.
It's not about the cache contents, it's about finding the cache and reporting the find to the owner on geocache website.
Some people leave multi level trails as well.
One dude left a multi trail cache, and in the last location was $10,000 cash

Just stop by a Dollar store of some such and buy a bunch of cheap plastic toys.
I placed one, and filled it with those little green army men.

Charts don't lie....;-)

No, but if the person posting the coordinated of the cache they are hiding posts them wrong on the web site, you won't find it easily.
This is where the OPTIONAL hints on the post come in for helping locate the cache location.

Also after a few people fail to find a cache using the provided coordinates and tell the owner, S/he will usually double check them and repost the right ones.

I like Nature and the Woods, I like technology, I like mysteries, so this is a good fit for me..

I also like your new Avantanar....

One of my buddies has a FANTASTIC NEW boat- sail of course!

Anyhoo...He's got the GPS on it.

I'm going to miss the charts to be honest!
