Got a new job offer today

I think it's a pretty solid place and I could make very good money there. It's a financial company that does equipment leasing. I haven't done anything finance related for a few years now, but I'm sure I can kill it. Only problem is, I'm kind of mindfucking myself when I think back to losing everything when the mortgage market crashed. That fucked me up to the point that I'm almost afraid to succeed again, and that sucks.

The cool part about it was I had the offer letter emailed to me by the time I got back to my office. Bad part is, they want me to start Wednesday. I've never just left a job in my life, and I don't feel comfortable doing that. My current company treats its employees like shit, but they do it with a smile on their face. They never rehire people or even let them move up, so whatever. Fuck.

if they layed you off how much notice do you think they'll give you??

I'd go out sick, use all the sick time and vacation time and count that as the 2 weeks notice..

This is true. The manager did cockblock me when I tried to apply to the logistics division, even when the recruiter at corporate told me they prefer to promote from within.

My boss said I should be damm happy I have the shitty job I got

That's how my current company is, but they're really passive aggressive about it. You'll know you're doing well, get emails from people that are much higher up than your boss sent just to you telling you they appreciate your work, and then your boss will want to have a meeting with you saying they want to review your performance. When a person starts making money at this place they brow beat them. It's really a crappy environment.

Congrats! I think it's odd though that the new company is pressuring you to start immediately. If I were you I would give the old company a week's notice, take a week for yourself and start two weeks from Monday.

That's what I say...kind of selfish.

Leave for the new job.

Don't burn the bridge.

Tell the current employer that the new job is your "dream job" and the only thing on the planet you'd ever consider leaving them for. While a dramatic departure might be satisfying, just leave them and move on.

so will this be instead of nursing, or are you still working on that?
sounds like a no-brainer leaving the current gig for the better one...though
it is scary leaving security for the unknown...
can i be plauged with indecision?

Haha

Leave, Nev. Never stay anywhere that doesn't want you to succeed and progress. You're too awesome for a place like that anyways

Do your best to not burn the bridge though. :)

keep the current job

knot sure why just wanted to be the lone dissenter in case the new job fugs up

They were cool about it. I basically took the plunkey approach. I think they're starting to realize they're fucking up and pushing every producer out of there and turning the place into a call center with a bunch of unmotivated dipshits. When I told my manager she just kind of smiled and gritted her teeth and went "fffuuuuck" and then told me she doesn't blame me.

It felt damn good to walk out of there. Everyone was jealous.

want to know wut my "dream job" wood be?

I can't be the Knoxville pool boy job.

I've been dangling it in front of your face for two years now, and for some reason you refuse to bite.

Guess what else youve been dangling in his face

You'd think we wood immediately hop on such an immediate opportunity.

I made him a firm offer, but it does involve quite a load of work.

Good call on taking a chance and making the move without burning your bridges.

Just take what you learned from the mortgage crisis and prepare for the coming currency crisis. Next crash will be far worse and will affect more people than the housing crash, but people with their eyes open with a little cash will be able to do quite well.

So make as much coin as you can from the new job, pay off some debt, and you'll likely be far better off than if you had stayed :)

Congrats on making a move. Most people let fear get in their way, but a similar event was the best move I've made.
