Design Engineer

Medical device manufacturer.

thats right, I can now pretend like I make 4x what I do....like everyone on EF :)

Tucson AZ

actually its mainly a biotech company. But its cool.

thanks guys

awesome man!

entry level is what.. 45? 50?

you'll be making 4x that in 10 years.

Entry level around here...

A lot of defense contractors are raising the bar in Tucson. Raytheon is offering new hires 61k/year plus a 5k signing bonus.

I have yet to negotiate my salary, 55k/year or higher is what I'm shooting for.

A Mechanical Engineer with around 5 years experience could go into consulting and make 45-55/hour. They would have to pay for their own health insurance, but still way more than most companies would pay.

Not necessarily.

You find consulting companies that let you pick your clients and such and offer you benefits as well for working under their shell.

well, yes, you are right. Companies will usually shell out a lot for consultants - that was my point.

That's awesome. I can tell you that medical device stuff is very hot and will be in the future. I didn't have much breaking into it from the software side w/ no med background - this should be a great start for ya!

Will you be making prosthetics and wheelchairs and the like? or what?

Engineer? You couldn't Engineer yourself a date, how the hell will you do it and get paid? HA I don't even know you, but the joke sounded good. Cut me some slack.

Congratulations on the job. Good luck with it.

but... How the hell do you accept a job without knowing the salary? Where's the incentive for the employer in that?
