This is the reason why i want to get out of IT.
If you work in IT or a big company that trades on Wall Street -- the chances of your career going like a yo-yo and bouncing from job to job -- or getting a crappy pissant manager, or getting treated like crap, while working hundreds of free hours is VERY high. Especially in a bad economy (btw folks: didn't we HIRE Bush to come into office and fix it? I could've sworn he promised a great new economy for America. I guess he IS doing a worse job than Gore would've done but anyways).
Problem with corporate america is this -- they HAVE NO RULES. As you see with Enron, Worldcom, etc. --- they don't have Cops or the IRS to sift through millions of papers and find out eveyr nickel and dime. They can just say or do whatever they want, and everyone believes them. If you and I understated our income by $100 we'd be in jail. So if 10 executives want to buttfuck 5,000 employees so they can rack in $20 million for their savings -- they can.
I never did like the stock market. No other country in the world has their economy depend on this "paper-less money" system like the US does.
That's why we can have Wall St go crashing, and boom 20,000 people laid off. And unfortunately, when was the last time you heard a rally on Wall St and big companies announcing they were going to start hiring 20,000 people. Never. It's easier to be lean and save profits, then hire out and spend money.
And economy keeps slipping and slipping...
(btw: you know how many FBI agents are assigned to white collar crime on wall street? Yep. ZERO).

I call em economy-terrorists. Investor confidence is/has been destroyed, the stock market is down even lower than Sept 11th. consumer confidence is down. NO one has been brought up on any charges, mainly because of what you said. There are none, or they are so vague, that individuals won't actually be punished. IMO, they should have to do hard time, just like murderers, and rapists. These huge corporations have ruined thousands of lives, futures of kids, and because bush is pro-business, there is no serious action to make sure it doesn't happen again. The guilty verdict for Arthur Andersen is like giving a speeding ticket, it won't stop very many.
You're right again.......this idiotic crap about companies re-investing in themselves, is done (if ever) at a trickle. While the layoffs are done en masse.
Only in America can you become a CEO, drag a company into bankruptcy, and be fired and have to console yourself with a 100+mil compensation package. While the people who made the company successful in the beginning, are layed off, and ruined.
Strongchick, if your biz is about assisting other small businesses, best of luck. I'm sick of the effects of selfish, cutthroat big corporations. And for those who think this is a fine way to live, you don't have a clue about integrity, or decency for others. Keep on your narrow-minded path of the destruction of families all over this country. That attitude is not anywhere near what the founders of this nation had in mind. If you believe so, please post a link, or reference to it.
