Good Private Schools

New member
I´m fucking 19 and unwed and a freshman but the way most schools are going these days im already worried about my possible future kids.

I resent my parents (just for this, i do love them) for not sending me to a hardcore disciplinary school with rules and uniforms.

Do these even still exist?

I saw an old docu on English high end boarding schools and they interviewed these two 8 yr old boys (in formal clothing) and asked them, how do you feel about your school being so expensive only rich peoples kids go there?

They answered- "Well my father says its better that way, so you don´t get all these stupid dirty poor people around, you know"

I thought-fuck yea!

theres Hiatussin Jr 2025!

So is this stuff still going on.

Im serious, in case your wondering

There IS hope for the future. I thought I was the only one who felt that way.

The traditional English boarding school does still exist - while I was in the UK I read a lot about them, the hazing and other shit that goes on.

Their sister schools exist in the states too. I went to one, it was cool. You get what you pay for in education....though I don't believe in uniforms for school kids. No need to silence the brain and dehumanize the child. Structure is essential, de-individualization is not.

The impact of that experience is still being felt in my life. I am where I am today largely due to that influence.

i skipped over Choate and Hotchkiss though

How has that worked out for you since then?

Has it opened a lot of doors for you or advanced you professionally?

why the hell would you want to go to a serious strict boarding school?

exactly, there's no comparison between a private and state/community school education
it depends where you are....

in poor areas of the country, like DC school,s private school is pretty much a must...

some areas have amazing public schools

maybe but they're the exception rather than the rule

well i graduated HS in 92
but yes i had a network of friends helped to land me a job on the street

we had our son in public school for kindergarden and first grade. but we were very unhappy with the school and the way they ran it. so we put him in private school this year and it has made a huge difference. the other kids arent as quick to misbehave like they did in public school. so my son stays in line more. but so far he loves his new school, they have better lunches, and there isnt any pressure of dressing up or fashion. they wear uniforms so everyone is the same. its worth the money in my opinion.

These things are rather different in Holland... Public schools are better and there are very few private schools. im not sure how much % of the youth attends private but im sure its less than 5%

I think my parents mostly just felt they were too far away.

probably by the time i raise kids this crazy collectivist bullshit thing will be over anyway.

cool.

what are you doing now? lots of jobs on the street. Was there something unique that you were able to take advantage of because of who you met?

Don't mean to ask lots of questions..education experiences interest me.

when first trying to get a ob down there i went on a lot of interviews through my contacts but the job i landed i actually found myself go figure

yeah on average your right... but usually if your rich enough to send your kid to a high end private school, your rich enough to live in a really good school district, so it pretty much gives u the choice of public or private and they will still get an excellent education if u go public

my primary school was disgusting and scarred me.

There wasnt really crime but I was severely underchallenged (they even got me tested by all these kid shrinks to see if I shouldn´t be transferred a few years up or what would be best for me- they didnt know how to deal with me) and surrounded by kids I could not connect with.

My High School was pretty good academically, but i dont feel it gave me the right mental preparation for life in general. Too... left wing. Too...- leave no child behind BS.

I also feel it wasnt specialised enough. I followed 16 courses for instance. Altogether a fair amount of stuff for a HS student, but I´d rather have studied say- 5 of them WELL and have concentrated on stuff that matters. we had to take drawing, gym class, French and "religion" for instance. I´d rather just have taken Biology and the sciences and English and been much better prepared for my uni courses. Wannabe Homo Universalis type should have gotten their asses born in 1700 when the idea was still doable.

Now my uni is pretty great.

In order to even apply, you need a HS diploma only the top 5% of youth have. Then of those that apply to my faculty, only about 38% makes it through the written entry exam. There is no tard-cuddling, its up to yourself and if you cant handle it, two strikes and you´re out. If you don´t show up to compulsory lessons or assignments, nobody contacts you about it. If you dont contact THEM with a good reason, you can´t take your exams for that subject. There are no mid-semester pilot tests or weighted assignments. Procrastinators crash and burn as tests are highly concentrated.

I do. Its just even more rare and odd to send your kids private in holland than it is in the USA

all the more reason to do it- help them stand out even more

The top ten prestigious prep schools in the US are Andover (MA), Exeter (NH), Milton (MA), Choate (CT), St. Paul's (MA), Deerfield (MA), Hotchkiss (CT), Taft (CT), St. George's (RI), and Middlesex (MA?).

I think there's a site called boardingschoolreview.com that's kind of like a Princeton Review/USNWR with respect to prestige whoring and rankings and stuff, but I've never checked it out personally.

i went to private school my whole life and let me tell you it sucked...my family wasnt rich but my mom only cared about the education...my high school was so goddamn strict that i got 3 saturday schools in one class...one for not having my shirt tucked in...one for not having a belt..and the other for not wearing my ID...and saturday schools were 3 hours long

LOL
i had classes every sat morning (half days) we also had half days on wednesday
the reason for the half days were for Sports where you had to travel to other schools this way you didnt get back to campus at 2 in the morn

Been all those places. Might have even gone to one. :)

Exeter and Andover are far above the others as far as campus life and resources.

Here's a prep site review with the top 100 in the country though, you can find St. Mark's (TX) on there. good school. about 800 students grades 1-12. has helped me a lot with connections and just... everything was easier after going through an education of such rigor at a young age.

Full of money of course, $19,000 for a senior.. and it's just day school.. they call it "The Golden Arm of St. Mark's" when we recruit university professors from around the country to come teach and they never leave because the money is the best they'll ever have anywhere.

nothing compared to those top 10 I'm sure but in texas nothing compares to it.

The ones in the NE are just older and have longer standing ties to elite universities in that part of the country, and therefore more alumni in positions of power. That's one of the differences.

I don't think there is much of a qualitative difference.

I went to boarding school. Total bullshit. They inflate your marks and spoon feed you like crazy. I did my best to ignore it all. IMO, if you can do really well in a public school system with all the distractions and lack of quality of education, you should be able to murder university.

There was a very small High school, maybe 50 students, near where I grew up where they got classes with 1 teacher and three students and they ran over all the homework one on one so you just had to do it. It seemed nobody every failed in this school, period. it was like an "honours class" program

I believe they paid about 20 k a year and it was a day school. All the rich kids who happened to act up in public school went there. And it works.

Pissy people frowned upon it though, called it buying the hon. diploma and whatnot. Who cares- they have to take the same exams, they learned the same stuff

This is 100% true. I have a very rich friend. He failed through school all his life. He wasn't dumb by any means he just didn't care. His parents got sick of it and they were worried he wouldn't get into college so they put him in this uber-private school and rather than giving him lessons or anything his parents just paid an ass of money and they gave him a 4.0gpa and a 1400 on the SAT. note, he never went to the school nor did he take the SAT. You might call BS and so did I the first time he told me but it all adds up becuase he goes to UNC chapel hill now and with his previous grades there would be no way he could get in.
Mother fucker goes to better school than me now because his dad has a big wallet. He about got caught though. The school doing it was exposed and it was all over the news where he lived but they never traced it to him.

I'm assuming he was in-state? It'd be pretty hard for a 4.0 UWGPA and a 1400 (or 2100 now) to get into UNC out-of-state without some moderately strong EC's and rec's... was his HS a feeder school for UNC or something? LOL, it's pretty impressive if both the kid and the HS faked everything and he got in without getting caught. Deliberately faking stats or anything on an app for any accredited school will get a person blacklisted by pretty much every university in the nation if the get caught.
