Wage garnishment is only one way mechanism to enforce a judgement.
My advise is not to re-age the debt by dealing with collectors.
In Louisiana there is no legal recourse to collect on an unsecured debt (typical credit cards) 3 years after default.
Check on your state for open revolving unsecured accounts

You gain NOTHING. I repeat NOTHING by paying off a 3rd party collection agency. Most won't even put a mark on your cr that it's paid. If they do, it's went into collections, paid. Which won't do ANYHTHIGN to your credit score. So you get these stupid americans (notice a trend) that pay thousands to an "agency" which is just 5 people working out of someone's house - thousands just to stop them from harassing them. hahaha. Incredible.
Do corporations get creditors harassing them? And Wall St gets off from paying TRILLIONS in bills. Which makes your debts PENNIES compared to what Wall ST fucks over their creditors. And on top of that, they get TRILLIONS of your tax payers from King Obama to boot!

Agreed ... there's no positive outcum possible by dealing with a collector. When you send in a portion of the debt you re-age the debt starting the clock over again. When you acknowledge the debt you just provide ammunition for your opponent. It's their burden of proof to ensure the debut is legit.
Send a registered cease and desist letter stating that you will only deal with the original debt holder.
