I love the R1. Have ridden my friends' in the past and those things are like fine scalpels on the road, corner carvers like a motherfucker with the awesome power of roll on wheelies in 3rd. Too bad it is out of my price range. I will be content in the town I live in with a 600 cause its' a real small town with not very many straights. Plus its real twisty and hilly so I need a nimble bike.

R1's are as nimble as most 600's check out the weight difference.

That's cool that you are going to get the gsxr 600... I'm considering one for my first bike. If I'm not mistaken though I think the Yamaha is a bit faster. Do you guys think the gsxr 600 would be good for a first bike or that I should go w/ something even slower like an older 500 Ninja? My friend has a gsxr1000 and I won't even come near it because I am so inexperienced.

If you approach that think with any hesitation it will hand you your ass. Extremely quirky and sensitive.

first of all,you won't need anything "faster" than a 600.I'll bet you anything you will never ever throtle a 600 out.
And about the beginner bike question,I learned manual transmition on my bike,very difficult at first with all the power,but I got the hang of it.Just go for the new 600 yamaha,r-1,gsxr,or f4i.All top ofthe line.

In 2000 the zx-6r was 600 of the year.(Which is what I am going to get before summer).

For 2003 the 636 kawi is the most powerful bike you can get.

Bobber, your going to hate the gixxers riding posture on long trips.

For beginner bikes, the 600 race replica bikes are MORE then enough.

The difference between a 600 and 1000 is about a second in the quarter(if that).

t actually has 37 more cc then the rest.

Regular 600 has 599.

The new Kawi has 636.

Acording to dyno charts, the Kawi is the most powerful.
