Hubby & I went out to eat tonite & when we came home, our very old cat had been locked in our bedroom & had peed on our bed which soaked thru the sheets, bedding, fiber topper, mattress, etc......so now I'm up all night doing laundry.....

One kitty (the one in the avatar) is scheduled to see the vet Tuesaday for shots, etc and I'm calling tomorrow for the older one to be put to sleep the same visit.....

I feel soooo bad.....but she has peed all over the house & on the bed is the last straw......

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek jen what happened?

The one I'm having put to sleep is Madonna -- she's about 19 -21 years old, not sure exactly....

I just know the other kitties are looking at me funny....

No don't!!!

Is she ill? I'll take her, don't put the poor thing to sleep

What you want her to pee on your bed??

I don't get to sleep tonite cuz of her....she has literally peed all over the house.....

What's wrong with her Jen. They usually only do that if they're ill

Uhhhh, according to the vet she's old & demented....nothing physical....

But she's peed 2x in front of the front door, all over the basement (to the point where you open the front door & the house smells like cat piss), all over the dining room carpet.....etc now on the bed, sheets, blankets, mattress topper, etc.....

i can't take it anymore....

I know exactly what your feeling.

I had to do that to my Last Dog.
He was getting on up there in age.
And couldn't hold his tee tee.
I had to help him up and down on the couch.

I felt so BAD!! I cried all weekend.

I'm very sorry..

I had to when Oreo's kidneys went. God, it was so fucking sad. The vet let us stay in the room with him, and I felt so guilty

That's how I did it to.

Hard, Very hard.

OMG, if I didn't know he was in pain, I couldn't have done it. He was such an incredible cat. When he was just a little kitty, he used to jump up on my back and stay there.

He would wake me up every night, several times a night, for his Kluckers treats. So I moved the bag from the kitchen drawer to the basement. I'm in the shower and he comes in the bathroom and starts doing his "raaawwwrr" high pitched whine, so I know he either wants food or the litter box cleaned:)

He made me follow him all the way from the bath on the second floor to where I hid the treats in the basement, never lost concentration, and always turned his little head to make sure I was following him. It was so cute. What a smart kitty! There will never be another like him. I cried so much when he was passing away, it was so sad. He was like a little person with his own personality, and so loving

It's so incredible how close we get to our pets.

Yours sounds like a very special kitty. :kitty:

Thanks. Ditto the sympathy on your loss. They are so special

Oh, JA, hearing that brought a tear to my eye....

Madonna, or MoMo as we call her, was adopted by me when she was 7 (or so I was told) and I've had her for 15 years....she's such a good cat -- like a dog....she's smart, friendly, although all she does now is beg for food & pee....

I feel so bad cuz I saved her from being put to sleep at 7 cuz her family had kids & she started peeing all over & scratched a kid, so I took her....now she's old, but now I can't sleep in my bed tonite cuz she peed all over it.....how do I get cat piss smell out of my mattress???????????????? I have to go to the industrial laundromat tomorrow cuz the mattress topped won't fit in my washer......poor calico.....I love her but my heart is breaking.....

Don't feel guilty at all. Look at it this way; if you were old, demented, incontinent, and most likely in pain...wouldn't you be grateful if somebody ended it for you quickly and painlessly? Take a tour of a nursing home sometime...you don't think the majority of the residents there are just praying for death? Consider yourself an angel of mercy for putting that cat down.

While true....I don't know for sure that she's in pain.....and the not knowing is what's so hard..... :worried:

When I was 15... I took my boxer (He was about 15 years old and I got him when I was 5) to the vet to be put to sleep when his kidney's failed. My grandfather and I loaded him into his truck... but when we got to the vet he was already dead. I miss him. Wow... it is 1 am. Time for me to go to bed and stop rambling.

Well, it's about 2:30 am and I just got done washing all the blankets, sheets, mattress cover, etc on the bed.....the mattress is still wet with bleach-water and I have to take the mattress topper to the industrial laundromat tomorrow.....

So, I still can't sleep in my bed tonite......on the couch, so I doubt I'll even sleep....yay!! Thanks Momo bear!! Oh and she's meandering around the house crying.....yay!!

Jen I don't think you can get it out.

At work we had a cat to come inside and hide and at night, he would come out and sleep and tee tee on the couch we had there.
There's this stuff we got from a carpet guy, that's suppose to get it out.
But it didn't; we had to throw away the couch.

Sorry about your kitty..

Jen, sorry Momo's gotten to this point. You hate to have your last memories of a pet be bad ones. Mine's 19 now and like yours, he'll meow continuously while he leads you to feed him, but mine's so senile, we feed him, he takes a few bites and walks away, then 5 minutes later he's whining for more food although he's got pleanty, he just forgets it's there most of the time. He's also going deaf so when he's leading us to his food, he stops every few feet as he turns to look to make sure you're following, we tripped over him a few times when he first started doing this but now we're used to it. I don't see mine lasting much longer...hope he passes in his sleep though.

That's exactly what she does.....poor thing -- I kick her constantly cuz she's always underfoot....and she has this "glazed" look in her eye....

All that in addition to peeing all over the place....

I had the vet put my 17 year old cat to sleep last Monday. I never thought of myself as a cat person (still don't), and I often found her an annoyance. She'd do stuff like give me "pay attention to me" bites while I was sleeping.
She was left behind by my now ex-wife. Frankly, I changed the cat's name to "Go away, nobody likes you". I wasn't cruel to her, but I rarely went out of my way to show her affection. What affection I gave her though she sure remembered--jeez, she LOVED to get her hair brushed.
Strange how tears came to my eyes when I had the vet do it. She's buried under the apple tree where she used to sit and hunt.

I prolonged my last dog's life out of my own selfishness. She was my buddy, and I'd wash her after she'd soil herself and her bed, hold her when she'd have a seizure. I overtly loved that dog, but I realize now wasn't doing her any kindness. Making that decision though was so hard; doing it was awful. It took me damn near a year to get another dog, and only because my son was bothering me for one. Now Ginger's my new best buddy.
