GM to layoff 30,000 plus....

PBR

employees prior to holidays...nice. Fox News:  due to lack of interest of american car buyers for GM products...so they are moving plants to Mexico and China...I thought Al-Qaeda was using Mexico as cover for infiltrating the US???...doesnt anyone in Washington know this?...or is EF only privey to this info?.... :worried:

Its b/c America carmakers suck and so do the employees, theyve for decades put out an inferior product and been overpaid for doing it. The market won't bear the Union demands. They bargained themselves right out of jobs

i see....so they had a choice before this went down?...it was negotiable?

naw, just a fact of life that was inevitable in the global marketplace. The fact that they are have repair rate improvement about a decade behind where Japan's rate was ten years ago means they just dont improve.
They are a bloated nonstreamlined company. Moving it overseas will actually improve their product with the employee labor's harder work and also cheapen the product for the end consumer

You can't negotiate the inherit weakness of the overly inflated ego of a blue collar worker. They refuse to do things and such, there is no "I" in team

When toyota moved plants over here they paid/pay their workers $10 less per hour. I think it was average for US $27 and Toyota was $17. Still decent for a repetitive machine operator job....or whatever else they do :) Something to think about....

i just see it as Lestat said, overall it takes away jobs, consumers etc. from america...Our govnmt. talks out of both sides of their mouths...telling us that Mexico is basiclly facilitating "terrorists" and yet we move a huge industry over there to benefit that country...personally i think its all BS...

thanks for the replies guys...

AGREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED TO THE FULLEST

There's no future for the manufacturing sector in the US

sooner or later it will almost disappear

A Toyota costs less to build (salary, workforce structure) and are better quality. In a Toyota plant, they can move their employees from one station to another, try this at a GM plant and you'll see the union turn purple.

But GM management should be blamed too. Probably one of the worst in the car industry...

Says it all right there. The product is shit and they seem to either be unable or unwilling to improve it to compete with the Japanese.

i dont care for GM products at all...i drive a Toyota. have a new 05 Pre Runner quad cab...its an awesome truck.

Layoffs? I think GM's present leadership needs to hire someone with a passion about cars. This was the biggest car maker in the world a few years ago and there is no excuse for falling behind. Where has GM went wrong?

Nice 7-yr old thread bump, shithead.

Exactly. It is no longer possible to run a plant in the USA under union terms, and the union leaders pretend they don't know that, so as not to lose their power and union dues. The only reason that GM stayed for an extra couple years, is that Obama handed out our cash to them for free. Sure, they'll show fuzzy accounting that says they paid back the stimulus money, but the truth is that they "paid it back" in the form of tax adjustments and bartering. Ford is just as crappy and just as unionized as GM, and they refused the stimulus money, and they're still in business, and they're not laying anybody off. Why? Because they were allowed to pursue good business tactics, and relocate overseas for a lot of the manufacturing, but kept all of their offices and still a ton of manufacturing here.

Hey shithead #2...nobody is getting laid off.

Hey shithead #2...nobody is getting laid off.

LOL.

Let's update this thread from 2005 to 2012.
-Bush crashed the Economy.
-GM was about to go under.
-The radical right, like Mitt Romney, thought that the "free market" failure of one of our biggest businesses was a great plan, despite the millions of people who would have been financially devistated, and a world economy that could have easily went from recession to depression.
-President Obama was elected, saved GM, and saved the day.
- The guy who wanted GM to fail is now running against Obama. He actually wants to be our next President.

News from today. How timely:

Chrysler said Tuesday that sales rose 14 percent in August amid strong demand for its Ram pickup truck. It was Chrysler's 29th consecutive month of year-on-year sales. Ford's U.S. August sales rose 13 percent, to 197,249 vehicles.
And General Motors Co posted a 10 percent jump, as higher gasoline prices spurred sales of GM's Cruze and other compact cars.

Auto sales rise as higher gas prices, aging vehicles spur demand - Bottom Line

Technically, I never said they were laying off anyone in my post because I hadn't looked into it yet, but as a matter of fact, GM is indeed laying off plenty of workers. Below is al link to an article stating that GM is laying off 2000 direct employees and 18,000 subsidary workers by June of 2013 by closing one plant alone. The 2000 direct layoffs are at a Canada plant, but the 18,000 subsidary layoffs are all over the world, including a lion's share in the USA. There are many other contingency plans standing by, in case the economy worsens, or if the present plans don't do enough. But of course that'll NEVER make the mainstream news until the election is over with.

GM Plant Closure: General Motors To Proceed With Closure Of Oshawa Plant By June 2013, CAW Says

I'd be much happier as a sh*thead being wrong about that, but sadly that's not how it is...

and the point goes to shithead #2 :lmao:

I hate the people in this thread from 7 years ago, I never met them but I hate them so much.
I hate them more than I hate getting no sleep and getting up early for work.
I wish I had a full time job that consisted of hating these people from seven years ago so I could spend my time hating them all day!

They make me so mad. Someone should ban them just incase they decide to come back!
