glutamine and sore kidneys

Has anyone heard of this side-effect with glutamine? I used the stuff for 3 weeks and almost immediately from when I started I found my kidneys would get sore whenever I had to take a piss. Especially the left side. I went to my doctor, he sent me to a lab for tests and they all came clean. I stopped using glutamine since last sunday and the pain is completely gone.

Is this common? Is there any other supplement that works like glutamine that I can try?

Never had that happen and ive done 25 grams of glutamine before. Are you drinking enough water?

Glutamine is a naturally occuring amino - so it's still a part of your diet even if you aren't supplementing with the powdered form. I don't see how it could be responsible for kidney pain.

The coming and going of your kidney pain was probably coincedental with your starting and stopping of the glutamine supplementation.

I too have gone up to 30g daily and never exprienced problems (though everyone is different, etc.,)

thats odd, although i only use 8 grams a day i never have any pains. hmmm, thats really odd.

I've asked a few people at the gym and none of them have heard of this either. The doctor recommended to stay off the stuff but I think I'll try it again for a couple of days to see if the pain comes back, then I'll know for sure.

Ive been taking it for around 9 months with only positive effects, nothing along the lines of that. Perhaps you are not drinking enough water for such a high protein diet that most lifters use, as diet might be suspect to kidney problems, and low water.
