glucosamine & back pain

DTK

New member
having a ton of back pain, and i'm hoping someone may know enough about glucosamine to tell me if it might help.... when i was younger, maybe 16-17yrs old i had back x-rays done and was told almost all the cartilidge between the vertebre in my lower back was gone. they told me i could expect to get severe arthritic back pain at a fairly young age. Well now at 25yrs old it's killing me. The pain is pirticularly intense after workouts, and all but unbearable after heavy leg days. I have questioned my physician about it a number of times, and he pretty much just says there's not a whole lot that can be done, and just says to take some aspirin when the pain gets bad. I started taking glucosamine yesterday. Going to do 1500mg daily for 8 weeks, then probablly back down to 1000mg/day. Does this sound like the kind of thing that glucosamine will work for??? or is it more for just minor joint pain?? is there anything else that might work??? or am i just destined to be one of those grumpy old men hobbling around with a cane holding their back and bitching about how bad it hurts.

If you want heavy artillery...get som knox gellatin, bombarded with glusomanine, and msm. also drink lots of water this helps lub those joints.

glucosamine is a building block for catrilegde, tendons and ligaments but if the damaga is perpetuated and not allowed to heal taking condriton/glucosomine etc will only offer a modicum of help.

The response you got from your doc is typical and its rather sad to be told there is nothing to be done when your so young and in so much pain. Just from your description I would guess that at some time you injured your lower back and treated it with the commonly recomended methods of anti-inflamatories for the pain and possibly ice etc. Tendons and ligaments support the spinal column, the ligaments attach the bone to bone, stabalizing the structure which keeps the disks seated properly between the vertibrea, when the ligaments get stretched due to an injury or even overuse the disk can slip out of position (bulging) and can rupture. If left unchecked it can deteriorate alltogether over time calcium builds up in between vertibea and you have arthritis. I highly recommend you check into prolotherapy, you can search for a doc near you at getprolo.com

I woudl add in the MSM too since there are a lot of commercial preparations out there that have it in there and it has been shown to help reduce pain.

Thanks for reminding me about the gelatin, I just had some joint surgery, I gotta buy me some of that to go along with the GLucosamine/Chondr.

thanks

they do make a product with all 3 in it...try getting your glucosamine in at 1650mgs...that seems to be the magic # of mg. I had a degenerative disc disease after an accident...Ive had 3 fusions and 2 lamanectomys( sp)....I did GH therapy for 8 months solid...I have not touched a pain medication or had any problems since...they (doctors) told me same thing...get behind a desk, and forget about the gym- get used to being fat...fuck-you- pro athletes get healed all the time, why cant we????? my GH protocol was done on my own and not under a docs care...my pain was more than I could describe...I saw that if left untreated, I would be on pain meds forever....I saw a friend of mine who had the very same situation- got hooked on meds and lost his whole life....Iam now in the best shape of my life and feel better than ever...I have done a 6 month cycle and a 4 mon cycle (GH) since the year 2000... so a total of 3 cycles in a 4 yr. period...
