ok so i was doing a keto diet for 5 weeks without doing any carb up days. i lost a good amount of fat but, around the 4th week or so, fat loss came to an abrupt end. i was adviced by mr x to incoporate carb up days to start boosting my metabolism. i added two carb up days this last week and now, ever since monday, i have been dragging ass all day. my energy levels have plumetted and i am guessing its because of the carb up days. i had a significant amount of energy when i was just doing a straight keto without carb up days. this is the exact way i felt when i first started on the keto diet. now, since i cant lose fat without a carbup day and since i cant deal with this lethargy that comes from carb up days, i decided to just do a normal low carb (cycling) diet (100-200g/day). my questio is how do i start to incorporate carbs bak into my diet?

Your biggest problem is that you did not properly come back into Ketosis by taking the post-carb-up precautions.

If you do normal carb-cycling, then you need to introduce carbs very slowly, but at the same time decrease the fat intake. Start by adding 50g carbs per day for the first week, then 100g carbs/day for the second week. Afterwhich, you can start to increase the carb intake to your wishes. Just make sure your fat intake drastically goes down, or fat-gain will be impossible to prevent. (stick w/; EFA's).

not sure i understand that. are you talking about ALA? im not a big fan of it. i did my carb up days on friday and saturday. on sunday, i went back into a keto diet. i did add more protein than what you recommended though. do my workouts have any effect on ketosis? i do back, abs and calves on mondays, chest and shoulders on tuesdays, arms on thursdays, legs, abs and calves on fridays, 45min speed walk mon, tue, thu, fri and 60-90min speedwalk on wed. i do my cardio first thing in the AM and then head to the gym right afterwards.

before you put another thing in your mouth go get 00 mg caps of ala from a health food store and pound a couple before every meal..

good luck it worked for me post ckd, i been off it for 4 months and ive only gained back 3 pounds eating like anything i can grab. i also lost another inch off my waist during this time.

1) you were eating too much protein, that's probably the BIGGEST reason for you not being able to get back inot ketosis, protein can convert to glucose at a 50% rate

2)You should be doing the biggest bodyparts on Mon: chest/back/legs

3)you should NOT be training after WED. only cardio

4) ALA is a very beneficial too to get you back into ketosis, why would you not be fond of it? it's not dangerous

Many things you could have done wrong..............

ALA bloats me. i tried ALA for the first week that i was dieting this time. by the end of the week, i literally went up one wasit size on a calorie restricted diet. ALA just isnt for me. now about what you said though. i did not mention that i was not in ketosis. i just said that i was feeling very lethargic. by tuesday, i already was in ketosis. i had my first meal after my workout at 6am:
44g whey protein 2g fat 2g carb and 34g protein.

my next meal was at 730am:
4 eggs, 14 slices pepperoni, 2 ounces cheese and 2 sausage links 77g fat 7g carbs 63g protein.

i tested myself at 820am on tuesday and i was already in ketosis.

my next meal was at 1pm:
1can tuna, 2 tablespoons guacamole and 1/4 cup cheese sauce 15g fat 4g carbs 35g protein

at 5pm i had 44g whey and 2 tablespoons flax 11g fat 2g carbs 34g protein

at 6pm i tested myself again and i was still in ketosis.

my problem isnt that i could not get back in ketosis, my problem is that i was tired throughout the day. my workouts have not suffered. i did notice that my strength went up after the carb up days i did.

personally, i think i have been making a good progress on my fat loss. muscle gains was never my concern because i know how difficult it is to lose fat and gain muscle. however, i do believe that i did gain a bit of muscle- but not anything to be impressive. my fatloss, like i said, has been progressing except for the lower abs. i cannot seem to lose anymore fat in that section. now i know that i have been taking alot of protein but, like i said, i have not had any problems being in ketosis. unless i am in and out of ketosis? i may have to take the ketostix with me to work and test myself each hour. by the way, here are before and after pics that i have taken so far. comments would be appreciated

even though......

you used to talk mad shit about me (have no idea why) and say that I was bitchy and had an attitude, I'll be the bigger man and say you have made great progress. U look really good, and you have come a long way!

(BTW, u probably had me confused with the SwoleCat imposter at Ghazi's Fitness Board, yes, he is a total dick) If not, then all I can say is you have quite the wrong impression of me, but I don't have the energy, nor the desire, to try and change one person's mind)

Like I said, good progress. I don't see how ALA bloats anyone though. That to me makes no sense whatsoever.

Can someone explain this on a scientific tip, if the idea is even a remote possibility, as I have never heard of this once in my entire life, and I have worked with thousands.

~SC~, this phenomenon is called not being able to stay in Ketosis, probably going in and out of Ketosis for some reason or other. Probably factors we do not know here. Assuming that the person has done CKD for 4 weeks at least, the lathargy should not be present; thus, we can conclude that it's the shifting from a fat-burning to a carb-burning back to a fat-burning metabolism, which ultimately does not yield tha amount of Ketones needed for energy expenditures.

Depressive, try coming off the way I posted before:

what about......

the bloating from the ALA though? Is that a possibility, as I have never heard of that.

That's possible at really high doses, it's also a setback w/ ALA, where w/ R-ALA no bloat happens. But, for most, the dosage has to be in the >5g range to compulse the bloat. It's due to the same bacterial that make lactose intl. ppl. to bloat.
