getting canned tomorrow

I knew it was coming, all part of down sizing. What pisses me off is that I'm the most productive and dedicated in our team, with multiple bonus rewards every year for outstanding performance.. and I get canned. FUCK!!!!!! Sorry just venting.

Now I’m in my office contemplating if I should even come in tomorrow. What would any of you do if you were in my shoes? Just out of curiosity....
 
i'd go in tomorrow. who knows, they might decide to keep you after all. my dad faced a layoff for over 2 years before it finally happened. every time it'd get close to his layoff date, they'd push it back further. just my opinion.

I thought about this, and I'm sure they wouldn't even waste their time in court, so at least I would get some sort of settlement. But then again, no matter what, my references are fucked!!!! I've spent the last 6 years working for these asswholes....
 
Find out if there's shit you have to do to get severance. I've seen companies that were moving to outsourcing require the employees to train the new guy in order to qualify for severance.
 
dont burn your bridges dude its happin everywhere you might want to use them for refs in the future.

I'd happily take the payout, have a holiday and look for another job with their money............if you're good as you say, you'll have no problem.
 
I know how you feel, I'm facing the same thing in a couple of months.....but it still sucks.....

Hope you are getting severance...

You got that backwards. If you quit, you lose unemployment and severance. If you're fired or "downsized," you get the goods.
 
Get everything you can out of them!!! Get letter of reference from your direct boss...that's all you need. After you have that in hand, take as much shit as possible if you aren't going to be getting any severance. Also, if your company deals with information that is valuable, copy as much info as you can. Also, make sure you have all of your contacts you've made on this job saved...if you get hired by a company in the same field, they are extremely valuable. Don't worry about any non-compete clauses you may have signed..they are easy to work around.
 
I was thinking of keeping the notebook, but considering all the problems it had, I'd be taking problem off their hands. So I left it!

Thank for all the suggestions, some of you are completely nuts, but thanks for the laughs, I needed some.

I was assured a very nice severance package, but I won't believe it until see it on paper.
 
At least if you go in tomorrow you'll find out about the severance and what you need to do.

Sorry to hear that you're losing your job though.

If you're caught arrest comes to mind.

A part time worker was fired last year for garnishing his wages. He filed a claim for unemployment not realizing that before any money is paid the discharging employer has to fill out a form. The form includes questions, especially why the employee was dismissed. The director called him and explained how badly it would become for him if the form was filled out so he dropped the claim.

Take your skills to a direct competitor or start your own consulting firm.
