Big Gene benched it today on his 2nd attempt and passed his 3rd, also Mike Miller of Metal Militia benched 750 after a 1015 squat. Way to go man.

...and someone said the 1000 pound box squat (which I witnessed) was a joke! hahahaha....FUCK YOU!

Way to go, Mike and Gene!!!

Just look at these numbers. . 900lb bench press . . and 1000lb box squat.

There are people out there doubting a 1000lb bench press. . as far as I am concerned. . anything is possible.

It's out there.

I also have video of Becca accidentally breaking the all time squat record (for women) and the all time APF women's bench record. Her dealift kicked ass too. I should have them up soon. :)

Big congrats to both Mike and Gene...just keep rasing the bar...

Yes Liftbig is lifting, haven't heard yet on him, I think he already lifted.

He did great, but I'm not going to steal his thunder by posting the numbers. ;)

Let's just say that a teenager took 3rd place out of ALL the men. :garza:

Is it just me or is the bench press record being broken every other week lately. At this rate 1000 will fall be the end of the month. Good god thats a lot of weight.

Good training methods, equipment, gear, and most important. . hard work has made it all possible.

Just a question, since I am such a newbie: when they set these contest benches do they tuck their shoulders back? I am just curious. plz dont flame.

Also the last three to four times the bench has been raised was by the same two people.

It seems that the overall bench press record is increasing at a rapid rate, but this cannot be said about the squat or deadlift.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the squat record has been stuck around 1100lbs since the days of Fred Hatfield.

Also, the dead is what. . .around 930lbs?

Of course I am pissing into the wind here since I have no sources to show me when records were set.

The question is. . how long will it be until we see a 1000lb deadlift and a 1300lb squat?

I think it will be a LONG time before we see a 1000lb deadlift, given that powerlifting equipment helps the least on this lift compared to the others.

I'm sure it will happen eventually; I just think it will take a VERY long time.

Didn't Bolton just break the squat record like last weekend or something? I think 1114, but I'm not positive.

I want to say Bolton squatted 1116... but yes, he did take the record.

Cuthbert, I don't know about that. People are wearing their canvas suits backwards, and pulling some SERIOUS weight. lol

Well one of the reason that the bench press record is going the way it is...is the Bench Only Class. You can be a bench specialist....focus all your energy on one lift. Definitely not taking ANYTHING away from the lifters breaking records (some of them are amazing three lift competitors), but I think it has something to do with it.

There is no such thing as a Squat Specialist...if you want to squat you have to be able to make it through a full meet. Besides unless I am mistaken the record was just over a grand for a long time and then the 1100 barrier was broken. I don't think it has stalled as much as some might think.

The deadlift on the other hand is going to be the hardest to improve...because today's equipment helps so little on the lift.

Are you serious?

I've watched rbrown pull 500 for reps with his canvas, and he said it felt like nothing.

That is odd though.

I always deadlift in an old squat suit that's too loose. I'm not sure what I would pull in canvas or a reversed canvas. I do like knowing that my deadlift isn't very equipped though. It's a mental thing for me. I know that to squat what I do, I need a suit. I know to bench what I do, I need a shirt and an arch...but the deadlift is the one thing I've got where I can go out there and it's just a battle between me and the bar. I like that peace of mind. Now, I'm not opposed to lifting in gear in a meet, that's the name of the game...but I do like having one move where there's just no excuse for someone to say, "Yeah, well she wore _ _ _ _ _ _ ."

...but yes, serious, they are wearing them backwards. I will be giving that a try on Tuesday. :)

I agree, I like that my deadlift is unequipped. It has to be. Pulling in a loose suit or groove briefs throws me off, I dont particularly care for it.

I'll have to make brown try pulling in the backwards canvas, that should be interesting to watch.

hey louden..... fred hatfields greatest squat was 1014, not in the 1100's. up untill i got on the boards 2 years ago when i first got into powerlifting... around then Brent Miskell squatted 1025 then a few months later squatted 1075. then within a year squatted 1107, which is where it has been, i hadnt heard about bolton.

bolton can also pull 933. miskel could pull a heck of a lot more, but he is missing one of his fingers.........

buth those are outstanding numbers none the less.

yeah i remember a year ago when ryan kennelly became the first man to officialy bench over 800 with a new record of 800.5 now he seems to have faded as a memory, its like 800 is not the biggest deal anymore.

X

I find this very interesting. I like the idea also of the dead being a pure lift, but if there is some way for me to increase my dead with a suit, I'd love to try it. I have only recently begun to play with the sumo pull. I have a lot of experience with the conventional pull. Is it your impression that the suit can potentially help the sumo style much more than it can the conventional? That is the opinion I have been forming lately.

Also, can you elaborate on what is going on with wearing the canvas backwards? What does that do that wearing it the right way does not? Are these sumo pullers or conventional (or both) that you see using a suit in the manner? I guess I'll just have to try it.

DAMN! I remember a few years ago when Ted Arcidi & Anthony Clark benched 700lbs and that was a BIG deal. Now, that'll just get you contention with these guys. 900lbs WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe Paul Anderson did it, but with the use of hooks.

He also did a 1206 lb squat. If this is accurate, think of how incredible that is. His era was quite different than that of today's powerlifting scene (in terms of gear, drugs etc).

John Grimek also witnessed him squat 900 lbs for 10 reps.

Paul Anderson was the man. Used to drink 2 gallons of milk a day, lol. That in itself is a feat.
