Right click your drive in question, usually C:, Properties, Tools Tab, Error checking, check now.
Does it blue screen or just freeze up after awhile. Is the drive solid state?

In a corporate world I don't do to much troubleshooting like this, shit like this would get a new PC instantly. It sound like you have bad blocks on your disk.

Is it under warranty? Otherwise not much if you don't have an OS install disk. Who makes it? Dell and HP usually have recovery partitions to boot from if you don't care about anything on your PC or it's backed up the you can try to use the recovery partition to error correct the drive, format and reinstall the OS bit I'm guessing that all sounds foreign to you.

Thanks for the help everyone. Especially you Captain! My lappy shit the bed a couple days ago. Finally got a new one today. Got a honey of a deal on a new HP ProBook. Now if only I could get some shit off the old one, onto here. The screen don't even light up. Worked for a few days, then nothing. Oh well. Got some good pics of some lady friends that just may be lost forever

No worries, bad blocks are usually never a good sign which seems like you had that since the check disk for errors and correction was only a temporary fix.
