HP laptop running windows 7. Runs shitty. Freezes up at times. Have to turn on and off at times to get the screen to come up. Any free programs or things I can do to get this bitch running right again?

Fuck that shit. This thing may be 2 years old, but it used to work fine, and I'm not in the position to purchase a new PC or Mac right now.

Right click your drive in question, usually C:, Properties, Tools Tab, Error checking, check now.

Does it blue screen or just freeze up after awhile. Is the drive solid state?

Sorry there should be an option to check the drive on reboot.

When reboot first screen say smart hard disk error.
Has detected imminent failure. Backup content immediately and run hard disk in sys diagnostics.
Hard disc 1
F2 system diagnostics
Enter continue start up
