If she doesn't respond and moves towards her car with her head down then give up.
If she smiles and looks you in the eye and says hello back then maybe you could start a conversation.
Dont treat this like a club environment - this is the two fo you off guard, not dressed to the nines (well at least not her), just ready for normal everyday interaction.
No need to be a sleeze but at least you could get some kind of a gauge from a simple hello.

Then - ever now and then - a nice, guy just expresses a genuine interest - no games, no creepyness - just a smile and a hello. And that is what makes us melt. (Granted you must be good looking and charming)
