How many plot lines have there been where the characters get the chance to win big money or trips or whatever? What's wrong with letting them win and be happy?

That's what I thought of immediately too. I don't even remember what happened there, I totally stopped watching by then.

Because sitcoms are funny and when you see someone lose, it's funny.

Plus if you let them win, you change the whole storyline of the show.

But, the guy from Spin City won $1M on Millionaire, so this thread is wrong

Yeah but they didn't win their money. He's talking about like how Al Bundy always had a chance to win the lottery or win a contest or gambling, but something always happened and made him lose it all or miserable.
