Ford Raptor

It is 7" wider than the normal Ford. I am thinking I would dig this thing.

Why do you need a truck w/a wider stance? IMO you'd be much better off buying a stock F150 and having a suspension lift and wheel tires put on it than paying 45k+ for this truck.

For actual offroading. A wider track is always better negotiate really uneven terrain.

yeah, but is billfred going to actually be doing any offroading. Me thinks not...

Also, most of those "upgraded" options in the Raptor you can't even get in the supercrew raptor. Geigh

I think the idea of a fast truck is retarded. It'll never be as good as a Mustang with the same engine, and the modifications to the suspension mean that it's no good for hauling cargo.

edit...

Oh, I see the Raptor is actually something resembling an off-road performance vehicle. My comments were made assuming it was another street truck like the Lightning.

No, the idea that someone would THINK that a truck with the same engine as a car will be just as fast is retarded....BUT, having a truck that is fast, and practical is a bonus! I own a silverado ss and love it! It's fast, practical, and Awd baby!! hehe. Now, if I want to go really fast then I hop on my crotch rocket. So Mr. dB, if all you want is speed then you know where to put your money.

Great for a poser, but come on; who's going to take that truck off of clean pavement? Here's what I use for crawling and mud womping:

And it's a Diesel, which I think is the only way to go offroad. If I dent it, I bang it out and re-primer it... No $10,000 repaint claim needed ;) And nobody's going to vandalize it (if they did, I wouldn't notice)

unless it's TIGHT and uneven...

doesn't the raptor come with like a 400+ horse powerplant?? taking a regular f-150 adding a lift and tires AND tricking out the motor to make comparable horsepower that's everyday driveable could wind up costing a LOT more than $45,000.

they advertise it as having a 6.2L, but that's an added option. It still comes with the base 5.4l a regular f150 has.

and you could easily take a bone stock f150 and build it to your specs for cheaper than what you could the raptor.

i thought it was making 400 with the little motor...like the mustang does.

With the Raptor you may retain some resale value, aftermarket modifications to a base model are like flushing money down the toilet.

Well, you get the value from the modifications while you're using them...

meh, I doubt it. Just like w/the aftermarket "goodies" the raptor is going to be a specialized market so I wouldn't bet on it having that great of a resale value.

Just basing that off of past models like the lightening/R/T 10 Viper Truck, etc...

This being a 4x4 may make a difference, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Dude - I own property at 10,500 ft elevation. I go off roading way more than you think albeit it is usually on quads.

or get a jeep if you're really doing some off roading. :)

You could bet a nice 6 liter Denali Sierra w/ac seats loaded for that tiger on wheels

I tried that in one of my Toyota Diesels... As much as I'm a Diesel man, it's a no-go at that altitude. I couldn't see through my own cloud of black smoke since there's no air up there to make the fuel burn properly  . I went up the Mt. Rose Hwy from Reno to Tahoe, and it was very embarrassing. It belched out a plume of black smoke like an old Caterpillar crawler trying to push a wall of dirt at full throttle. I'm sure someone called in to report a terrible fire of some kind from across the valley....

That's like saying there was no difference between pontiac, buick and oldsmobile back in the day.
All the same platform
totally different trim

GMC>Chevy

Good looking wheels. If I bought that I would just leave it up there. I am looking more for something I can drive in the city, drive up there and take off road up there. I think the Raptor is my answer.

Either that or I get another Denali and just ride the ATV's up there.

lots of people around here have jeeps just like that one that are used as daily drivers and weekend warriors.

I live in Texas. Daily drives are can be 200 miles. Weekend trips are 400 miles. My cabin - 1,100 miles round trip. Believe me, jeeps are ok for the city and ok for the mountains but not much in between. I have been down that road (pardon the pun).
