Bitter orange has become the next big diet thing. Like many of his peers Chinery has been hawling an ephedra-free replacement, Xenadrine EFX, which includes citrus aurantium, or bitter orange. Citrus aurantium contains synephrine, which, like ephedrine and amphetamine, is a stimulant that mimics adrenaline. Its fans say that synephrine, like ephedra, in combination with caffeine, suppress appetite and boost metabolism so th the body burns its own fat.

But adrenaline-like compounds that boost metabolism have a habit of boosting blood pressure and heard rate. 'They are adjusting synephrine to the same pharmacological potency so that it will have the same cardiovascular and neurological effects of ephedrine' says Arthur Grollman, professor of medicine and pharmacology at the State University of New York. "Without waiting another 9 years for people to die, we can predict with great assurance what the toxic effects will be."

Thremorexin has synephrine, right? First ingredient listed on the website. Don't tell me they are going to take away my Trex AND my Ephedra

Synephrine is definitely on the FDA's banned list. Watch for some MAJOR changes soon (within the next few years, possibly sooner)

Considering they are chemically similar, I wouldn't be surprised if they attempted to prove a connection between ephedra and bitter orange. They would probably state how its removal would be the only proactive solution in preventing future deaths, which have not happened.

The fact is, there are a lot of uneducated users out there, who seriously misuse products and ruin the benefits for everyone else. In the Consumer Reports article, one female was taking EFX "ephedra free" to study for last minute exams. I would assume she has never worked out, based on her appearance. She probably has never taken a diet pill and adjusted to its effects. Anyway, it is because of stupidity, such as hers, we have supplements getting banned left and right. Also, not to mention the fact that for some reason Bush is as horny and gitty as hell to ban everything he can.
