For Those That Train Solo

Just how heavy can you go on the Squat? I'm pretty sure I can squat heavier, but I can't physically lift the damn barbell off the floor and hike behind my head if I go any heavier than 30lbs. What's a girl to do? My dh comes home way late, and by the time he gets in I had better not even have my weights out?

You need a squat rack. That will make things SOOO much easier.

Ya know I was eyeing a squat rack in Modell's I think, and I don't even have to think about my husband's reaction. I know for a fact I can't bring one of those into my tiny Apartment. I also refuse to buy another set of dumbells until I can afford me some power blocks. I guess I'll just squat what I can until I can afford to do better.

Why wouldn't your husband let you have a squat rack? Doesn't he like the idea of his wife working out to better herself on more than just a physical level?

Nope sure doesn't. Now mind you his attitude normally wouldn't stop me, but deep down in my heart I know I can't fit a squat rack into my apartment.

Bummer. Hopefully you're able to find a place where you can fit in a squat rack someday. I love mine. :)

Sorry to hear that your husband isn't very supportive of your interest in fitness. :(

It might be a little cumbersome, but you can also use resistance bands - wrap them around the bar and under your feet and use that to increase your lift load.

try it...it might do enough damage to allow you to clean and press the bar....

LOL

Look at it this way...you will get a good delt workout from training legs

How about a swiss ball and some dumbells?

Swiss ball, lower back up against wall and hold the dumbells in either hand.
If you can try and get yourself a mirror that you can put up so you can watch your form.

I actually have a swiss ball, and although I appreciate the suggestion Velvett, let me mention I have a 2 yo that is struggling with the concept that the big ball is actually Mommy's. I can guaranteed you my form would be horrible, and only because I would have to fight to keep my son out of my face, if not on top of my lap trying to force me to roll.
