Here is a thought to consider. I know this was touched on from others but lets put it all in perspective. First this is in no way intended to offend anyone. We all know that there are black athletes that are crazy big and crazy cut. Take several picks be it, nfl, mlb, nba. I also have played sports and been athletic my entire life and have noticed that blacks(most)seem faster than me and even though I try and work hard I am still a step slow. This may be due to the fact that I personally do not possess the best genetics.I read the theories on this. Some say the slaves were breed with ultimate development in mind and that is why many blacks are genetically gifted. I have even heard that some of the heavy Bryant Gumbel looking guys of today were the result of breeding from workers that worked inside with kitchen and interior work. I am not trying to offend anyone just repeating what I have been told. Kinda makes sense to me.
However, I in no way think that black athletes are BETTER than any race. I know people say how many whites play in the NFL or the NBA . I hear ya. I hear about it all the time. My arguement is just what was mentioned earlier in someones post. The majority(not all) of blacks have very very few choices while growing up. They either graduate hs and get a job, or try to get to college with a full ride from athletics. Still others dont have the desire to go to college and only end up going with an athletic ride. Lets take a look at this for a minute. If I am black and I live in an inner city what do I do for fun? I am broke and want to hang with my friends so I go play basketball(cost 5 dollars for a ball) at the local park all day, every day. I go play football all day(cost 5 dollars for a ball) at the park or in a friends yard. I play baseball all day (cost a stick and tennis ball) in a park somewhere. My point being, black athletes while impressive generally only concentrate on these 3 sports due to the availability of these sports. I know there are runners and other sports but what we generally see is the main 3 basketball, football, baseball. With all of this , how many pro golfers are black in the history of golf? Tiger and Vijay, 2 of thousands and both familes had them playing golf since they could walk.Do I think blacks cant play golf as well as whites? of course not, I do however think whites (in general) have the history of playing that sport and fathers that play it. Whites can afford the money for clubs, lessons, green fees, cleats, etc... Same with any other sport that you dont see blacks playing. Tennis, (the williams sisters played since they were 3 and their father had money for lessons, court time etc.) How about Hockey? Ever see a black guy play hockey? Ever see a black guy in Nascar? How about swimming? How about racquetball or any other sport that costs $$$ to play or get better. I think in summary that all races have the ability to be as good as any. I think about the availability I had as a child. I played everything. I played it all and got good, but never great cause I played so many different sports. I am very good at baseball cause I played it a lot. I also played tennis, golf, did swimming, racquetball, raced cars, hockey, basketball, football, soccer, and boxing as some examples. I am not the best in any sport however I feel confident that I can run with anyone in any of these sports without making myself look bad. I definately wouldnt be the first picked but I would be up there. I just think that there is this misconception that blacks are better athletes because the main 3 that we watch happen to be full of black athletes. Whites in general have so many choices that they may not excel in basketball because they are busy playing tennis some. Kinda like if one guy dates one girl for a long time he is gonna know her inside and out and be able to read everything about her just by looking at her, while the guy who has lots of girls knows a little about them all but isnt as close to any of them. This is just my .2 cents and I hope noone is offended. It is not my intention at all. It is just my observations through the yrs and for the record, I have a friend (black) and we have had this discussion and he agrees to an extent. opinions? No flaming bros, this is just my thoughts.
