Florida vacation fishing pics.

I don't know how to attach the files so they are in the form of links to my gallery...sorry.:(

We took our kids to Sanibel Island for a 10 day vacation in late June. We also met my brother and his wife (my wife's sister) and kids there too. We did alot of shelling on the beaches and visited the sights there.

On Tuesday, my brother and I went fishing for tarpon and did we have a ball. Tarpon are very hard to catch and very hard to land once you hook one. Took me a little while to get used to not setting the hook when one would blow up on the bait but just reel in the line and the hook would set itself.(Bass fishing is a lot different than this!)

Anyway, here is the boat we fished out of. Nice boat set up for Tarpon and shallow water flats fishing.

We started out at 7:00am and had a great sunrise. The weather was great!

We arrived to our spot in one of the many canals there and it was only a few minutes before we were hooked up on a 90 pounder. A beautiful sight!

The fish made numerous jumps....as it towed our boat up and down the canal.

After a 40 minute battle, I think I got the best of him and he only made a few short runs and both of us were whipped.

Here is the catch and release. Didn't want to pull it all the way out of the water because of possible damage to the fish's jaw.

He has recovered and is starting to swim away....

We caught several in the 30-40 lb range and had a 120 lber hooked up but he came unbuttoned and kind of glad he did. We had a manatee come up right beside the boat. Funny looking creatures! We also had some dolphins running along side our boat on the way back to the dock. A lot of wildlife to be found in Florida. Great place!

We stopped by MattSkyWalker's house....

but nobody was home.:D

We noticed his car......

was parked at our condo but he was nowhere to be found.:D

We also went up to Cabbage Key by boat and ate cheeseburgers. This is the place Jimmy Buffett was inspired to write "Cheeseburger in Paradise." My brother and sister-in-law know the people who own this island so we had to visit them while we were there. We ordered 10 Cheeseburgers, 18 Cokes, 5 slices of chocolate cheesecake = $179.00. Whew, was that expensive for just lunch for 10 of us!!!!!

Cool place to visit. Buffett started a tradition of writing his name on a one dollar bill and taping to the wall. Now, everyone who visits there does the same thing. Every inch of wall space, posts, ceiling fans, beams are covered in one dollar bills. There is supposed to be about $70,000 in one dollar bills taped all over everything. Sure looked like there was more than that!

Here is the ending to a great day.....

On the way home, we spent the night in Savannah, Ga. We went down to the riverwalk and spent some time down there. This is my youngest daughter getting her picture drawn by one the many artists down there.

We had a blast and are thinking about doing it again next year except have more time for fishing.:D Hope you enjoyed the pics.

Sanibel Island is an AWESOME place to collect seashells. Love it there ;)

I love shelling. Here are a few that we have found.

This conch shell is very hard to find in this color of black and ivory. Beautiful shell to say the least.

A few of the sanddollars we have found......

Here is an interesting scalloped clam shell. I find it interesting because the colors and their arrangement makes it look like an image of an Indian chief with full headdress. Pretty cool.

We have a glass front bookcase that we keep some of our shells in. To preserve them, you have to first boil them and let them air dry. After they are dry, you have rub mineral oil on them and that will bring out the colors in them and plus it puts a shine on them. We have hundreds and hundreds of shells. Some I haven't gotten to yet but I will one day.:)
