Flex Wheeler Photo

Incredible pics. It still amazes me Coleman beat him after Dorian retired (or that he never beat Dorian during his run either). I think that first Mr. O against Ronnie, Flex didn't take him as a serious threat and it showed on stage. If he would have just been his usual cocky, push everyone out of the way and show what you got Flex, he could have won easily. It's a shame he had to retire without ever winning it. Now that I think about it, it's a shame many men have retired without winning it. So many great physiques and so many get overlooked or get the slap in the face of coming oh so close, only to never be handed what in many cases they deserve.

How did Flex screw up his kidneys, i.e. too many too long tabs?

But you know what that goes. Throughout the history of the competition, reigning Mr. O's have rarely been rethroned. You know how in Blackjack the "push" goes to the dealer, meaning all things being equal, the dealer wins? That seems to be the same approach the O judges have used for ages.

Only thing other than politics that kept Wheeler from winning the O was his spotty record with conditioning. If you combined Ladrada's work ethnic and consistency with Wheeler's everything-else, Wheeler would have held the Sandow for as many years as he chose.

It's true, very true. Especially the judging part.

As for training, to be honest, I think almost all of today's pro's are lazy fcks who can't be bothered to train more than a few days a week, or else they will 'overtrain'. Yeah right, on all the hgh, igf1, slin, mgf, gear, etc they will overtrain?!?!?!? The guys in the 40's-80's didn't have most of that stuff and in the case of guys from the really far back era, they had nothing. Yet they would bust their ass in the gym week after week. And they weren't getting big pay checks either or overtraining. One thing I will give Coleman credit for, is his work ethic at the gym/

Flex was a lazy ass most of the time. Everyone knows it too. It was his incredible genetics that helped him look that good. He was known to train mostly machines and not 'push' himself. Just imagine if he had the work ethic of Lee, like you said. He could have started the new era in bodybuilding sooner. Get rid of these pregnant bastards with horse legs sewn on their torsos.

And to the person that asked, Flex messed up his kidneys from diuretics. He relied far too heavily on them. I guess he shouldn't have been drinking cokes and going to mcdonalds while on his Olympia diet and he wouldn't have had to do such drastic things. :worried:

You know I heard that about him in so many places I guess it was probably true. Also his conditioning in many of the pro shows pretty much confirms it. I guess never really having to bust your ass to build a physique like that allows you to be lazy.

Labrada...dude, on stage the guy was a rock. He would stand absolutely flexed, and never relax for a second, during callouts for a half an hour or more. It's crazy. And all the while his smile never faltered. I swear I picture that guy being able to do an Iron Man triathalon. :lmao:
