Flax or Fish oil

Yeah, Udo's Premium Blend. It's a mix of a bunch of different oils. Good stuff, only problem is once you open it doesn't have a long shelf life. You can find it online.

Doens't fish oil taste nasty? I use flaxseed oil in my shakes.

I take capsules and keep them refrigerated. The studies done on the positive benefits of EFA's used DHA/EPA which is what is present in fish oil. The efa's in flax oil need to be converted to DHA/EPA by the human body and the efficiency of conversion decreases with age. my .02

That's correct. Alpha-linolenic acid in flax seed is hardly converted in men.

Good post....ALA is the parent, and to get the beneficial effects of DHA/EPA, it must be broken down. Some folks do this very poorly. Some argument could be made to do more flax then, but this will in fact in most cases not make any difference.

What is behind this is LA has only 18 carbons. Omega 3 from marine sources have 20 carbons, and this makes them biologically active.(EPA) So, with only 18 carbons, the body must make it longer for it to become bioactive, and this conversion is what many folks either cannot do or cannot do very efficiently.

Besides, of great importance here is the small fact that the Omega 3's found in vegetarian based sources...i.e...flaxeed and oil, are only 1/15th as effective as W3's from marine sources. So, doing the math, you would have to consume 15 times more oil from flax than fish oil to get the essential fats to make an eicosanoid.
