Fitting a bench shirt

I just ordered an Inzer denim. Every time I order equipment I always get stuff that's too loose. I took my chest measurement myself which was sort of difficult to hold the tape measure and let my arms down to my side. I measured 42" relaxed. When I ordered the shirt I told them my chest was 39". I also took half an inch off my arms. I hope I didn't over do it. The shirt is an open back so I should be able to squeeze into one that's a size too small anyway.
