First week of 5X5

Well, I've completed my first week of 5X5 training. I'm more tired after only 3 days of training than my usual of 5 days of training - 1 body part per day. I started a bit too light, but better to be safer, since it's my first 5x5. Next week I go heavier. Yeah buddy.

I felt pretty tired after my first week, but my energy levels ramped up soon thereafter, at least until the weights got really heavy in week 4. Since deloading, I feel great in the gym and pretty much feel like I could workout every day, except maybe the day after deadlifting.

You did kind of take a breather between your regular workouts and this right? Sort of like a pre-program deload. Some people have tried to go right into this program and were already close to overtrained which really hurts the effectiveness. If you didn't and were training hard right up until you began this, maybe keep next week fairly easy too and not ramp as fast. Just an idea in case the tiredness is related to something pre-program.

Good luck!

i th ought i started too light too.

i just finished my 2nd week and the weight creeps up on you faster than you expect with those 5 sets of 5.

and madcow, if i lifted on the monday and wednesday the week before and then took off up untill the first day i started 5x5 as that enough rest or should i have deloaded like the deloading program

Totally depends on you and what you were doing previous to the program. If you were severely overtrained a few days off isn't nearly enough to bring you back to a good level. At the other extreme, it may be just right or even have overly deconditioned you. Most likely it's fine but it's more a factor of your tolerances and what you've been doing the previous months that determine whether something is 'enough'.

wed with deads and push presses kicks my ass
deads at 375#, 5x5 wore me out way more than i thought it would

Knowing that I was gearing up for the 5X5, I took it easy last week with my workouts. We did bentover rowing a couple of times with light weights to get the hang of it, but everything else was mild.
