Took my first class of BJJ at AZ Combat Sports in Tempe. I have to say it was awesome. Some of those guys in there are amazing. I have done TKD and Ishin Ryu in the past, but this stuff was amazing!

I look forward to many years in this style. My hat goes off to you guys that have been doing this for awhile.

I love to hear when someone has caught the bug. Train sidemount escapes and mount escapes often and early, you will thank me later. Good luck!

congrats! glad to hear you liked it

what did you go over on your first day?

my first day of bjj was one of my favorite days in my ma life. now i was already doing judo for a few years but we went over a lot of standing techniques and self defense type stuff and i loved it.

keep at it and good luck!

First day was work from the guard...did armbar, triangle choke and something I think he called a scissor sweep..basically to go from guard to top mount then finish with a key lock. It was all great!!!

I turned 34 a couple of months ago and highly recommend the training to anyone in their 30s or older wanting to get some good exercise and martial arts training benefits. It was definitely more intense than my TKD and Ishin Ryu days.

I am anxiously awaiting training again tomorrow

nice those are some great basics to start learning. most of those moves are used in every single level of competition due to there effectiveness. its really cool learning some crazy fancy moves but in reality the basics are where its at.

yeah..that is how I viewed my standup training...flashy jumping kicks look real pretty, but aren't very useful. However, a good front or side kick can be pretty devastating. That is how I view the basics of my new venture. Build the best foundation and the rest falls into place.

Had my second class tonight. We reviewed the triangle and armbar from guard. Also learned to do an arm bar from the side mount, and a guard pass.

I had my first night of "rolling." I must say it was interesting. I would get in position and then could not think of what to do. I kept wanting to throw a punch from the ground, but had to control that desire. I am pretty sore tonight. It is amazing how physically demanding the classes are.

However, I am completely hooked. I can't wait until the next class.
