my drinking has worsened in the last few years since the loss of my dad

I was concerned about it effecting my job, but I recently got the highest annual appraisal you can get, and I'm gettting promoted in Jan.

meh i never bought this nancy regan-esque bullshit.
lotsa binge drinkers just like to drink and party, not running from anything.
it's fun, and for some peeps they can't let it go...only in hollywood movies or a small percentage of boozehounds drink to "escape" reality IMO.
obviously just an opinion, but i'm braced for a jnevin backlash :(

being as I suffered from anxiety the majority of my adult life, I believe many who abuse alcohol are doing it to self medicate

I guess as long as you can get away with it and you never hit bottom it can carry on for awhile

I don't particularly like an alcohol buzz (or the taste).

If I didn't' get pissed tested I'd fire one up every day :rasta:

As a recovering alcoholic, I don't touch it any more.
I have been mostly dry for 3-4 years. Lapsed a few times because mind plays tricks on you, 'I am in control. No harm with drinking once in a while'.
Finally learned the lesson, I don't need it. It has been more than a year.
Once you are an addict, you have to learn to always consider yourself an addict.

I think 46 of them in 2 weeks is enough damage for me 20 of them went down when the cops pulled up behind me after I wrecked my truck.Xanax bars are nothing but trouble for me fuck those things but i wouldnt mind 3 of em right now.

Had no choice it was either that or take the felony for possession.I was fucked up for 3 days straight while i was in jail and passed out in the courtroom waiting on a bond hearing the whole ordeal was quite ugly Pick.Ive always had a huge benzo tolerance the dumbest thing i ever did was take a whole 10 strip of 2mg roofies at once slept for almost a week straight my Dad threw a bucket of ice water on me and i didnt budge just kept sleeping.

I think that most people that abuse it regularly use it as somewhat of an escape. Addicts are just wired differently. Smurfy's mindset with her box of wine is different than mine would be, and more likely than not, she wouldn't be able to finish it in one sitting.
 
I just see you as a guy who likes to get fvcked up, but is too excessive with your control and it has you slightly worried. This is good that you recognize that, coming from an addict.
I'm not gonna preach and tell you what to do and to "wake up", I'd support you regardless of your good or bad choices.
 
I haven't drank in 3 months. I'm simply not in the right state of mind to be drinking.

This is a sign that you may be an alcoholic. One drink sets off a craving that can't be satisfied with a drink or two. It is a progressive disease that leads to continued drinking despite negative consequences.
I know how hard it can be, because I am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict.
Call AA if you think you have a problem. They're in the phonebook, or online at www.aa.org
