Well I just got some more of those tapes - I just put on Tape 2 of the 1995 tape set

Lots of oly complexes, pushpress and short sharp jerks etc
Interesting thing is some guys don't lockout on squats, very short and sharp motions. Some of them squat the same way I do.
Big weights on the lifts as you can imagine, but they make it look easy.
Botev doing a double power clean with 180kg, 396lbs, and it wasn't that hard!

------

Here is a clip of the Botev 140kg 308lbs Powersnatch and 180kgx2 396klbs powerclean, plus some light squats with 240kg 528lbs for 5 reps :)

Post some clips of Ronnie Weller pushpressing around 180kg for a double pretty easily later! That's 396lbs! ANother guy does 200kg as well, one pushpress and then jerk.

also I'll put up a clip of this 14 year old Chinese kid - this kid weigh 54kg can full squat 150kg! In the video he cleans 90kg and jerks it 3 times! His PR is 110kg Clean and Jerk
Another 14 year kid powercleans 220lbs, and he weighs around 120lbs as well!
Obviously at 14 steroids doesn't come into much - freaky

Added 2 more clips of some more of the interesting bits from the tape 2 of 1995 set. I haven't watched the first tape yet.
I'll maybe make another clip of some bits from the other tapes

has more of those Chinese kids at the end of part2
Anyway after a while everything looks the same. But those Chinese kids footage intrigues me the most! They have perfect form and damn strong!!

This tape is awesome - real eye opener, lots of lifters too.
Makes me wanna go out and train/ get stronger etc!!!!! :D

Notice that bad ass explosive freak on the Part 1 clip, the one doing the fast powersnatches and then jerks the bar over his head after he finishes squatting?

That guy is awesome! :)

This 2 tape set - 1995 one is good. The 2001 Polish one and Bulgarian 1998 one are also great as well.

I have another tape, 1993 one, where there is this 90kg (198lbs) lifter doing multiple sets of 290kg 638lbs rock bottom squats! Totally raw and real narrow stance - over triple bodyweight!

Then he does a few more sets of triple 180kg (396lb) explosive good mornings onto his toes afterwards. Back angle down to 2nd pull position.

Form is perfect in every set of squats and goodmornings, guy is like a robot!

Definitely some strong guys

Thanks for posting those. Goes to show you what you can do with just the bare essentials (no machines or fancy racks). Those little kids are amazing!

You know that was back in 1995, so those kids will be in their 20s now, must be "beasts" !

Just had the 2 new clips deleted from my webspace and hosted them in the above Yahoo briefcase. See first post

enjoy

Those tapes never fail to make me feel: slow, weak and old. I love to watch them though.

How about that Botev. Man that guys incredible. I think he had just moved up from the 110Kg weightclass before the 1995 Worlds. And how about doing a rock bottom 320Kg (707Lbs) backsquat (no suit, wraps or belt) for your second workout of the day; only days before competing in a World Championships.

Thanks for putting the clips online, it's been years since I've seen them :)

I am not quiet sure about that 14 year old boy being a beast at age 20. He was doing a lot of jerky moves using heavy weights. I bet his joints are pretty much destroyed from lifting all those heavy weights.

I can't speak for the kid on the video but Naim Suleymanoglu started breaking world records at 14. Almost 20 years later, he was still breaking world records.

As a coach myself though, I wouldn't have those kids working that hard so early in their careers. But, this type of program was typical of the former Eastern Bloc countries. Push a lot of kids through, working them hard, and see which ones are able to handle the workload. In the West, we don't have the luxury of losing a good athlete to injury or burnout in a sport like weightlifting. We just don't have a significant number of athletes to work with compared to some countries (especially China) and it may be years before we get another great talent.

Oly lifts aren't that bad on the joints if you do them properly.
And those kids have perfect technique. Jumping aorund on a BBall court has more impact force

I remeber when I was 14, I could run and jump around all day and not even feel it, realtively speaking . Teenagers have it lucky! :)
