Has anybody tried this device from Apex? I've been using it for about 3-4 weeks, I'm finding that it's at least keeping me accountable for my calorie intake, which is a huge issue for me. I'm down 9 lbs! My training has trained drastically however, now that I teach Spin I'm finding less and less time to lift and more and more time doing Cardio.

awww come on, yeah this may have been more appropriate to put in one of the training forums, however was just hoping to get some casual feedback on if anybody has used it...

reposting some more nekkids will get you some anwsers just sayin

One of the trainers at my gym is always trying to sell those things. I think they go for $250 or some crazy shit. Not interested.

never heard of it but if i used it right now with my french bread pizza im eating it would probably smack me in my face and call me a bitch....

yeah, I didn't pay for it. :) it's cool to come how and download your daily activity into the computer to see the calories you've burned and to know how many you can take in accordingly..

Huge mistake, find time to lift. Don't go overboard on the cardio

How much in BF and how much was muscle?

OK so please explain to me how this apparatus works. How does it know EXACTLY how many calories you are expending and taking in? Do you have to weigh and measure your food to get exact macro breakdown. Do you have to enter your height/weight and bf%?

Back when I was a trainer at WOW they also had a very expensive program of sorts to sell clients and they pushed it heavily but it was costly. For those who were totally clueless about caloric estimates/nutrient and macro breakdown/portion control I do believe that something like this would be beneficial. However, one could also purchase a book by Corinne T Netzer on Amazon (used copy shouldn't run more than 5 bucks including shipping) that would give identical information and more.

As for how many calories they were burning, the program could only give an ESTIMATE. Sorta like the cardio machines at the gym that tell you an ESTIMATE of how many calories every person MIGHT be burning after X amount of time on the apparatus as X intensity level. If I have more muscle mass than you, guess what? I burn more calories than you do even when I sleep (which is when your body burns MOST calories from fat.)

You say you lost 9 pounds? How much of a timespan we talking? As BW1 asked, how do you know if those were 9 pounds of fat... or 7 pounds of muscle and only 2 pounds of fat? Or 8 pounds of muscle and 1 pound of water?

Could you please explain better so that we can see if the product is helpfull or if it is just another high-priced gadget that gyms are trying to sell to clueless desperate clientelle?

I wish that you would share this info on the women's forum. We would all LOVE to hear about any new and helpfull advances in the fitness industry... We would also LOVE to tell each other what products are all hype and may even be counter-productive. :)

it's complicated.

my girl is a dietitian and has used one for research purposes, to see how well they work. She liked it, but would always take if off during the weekends so kinda pointless if you want a total picture...

I'd loose weight reading this:worried:

Hey! I am not just a hard-ass with a pretty face. :qt:

Seriously, I get irked when "weight loss" gimmicks are marketed to peeps who don't know any better. Goodness I used to get sooooooo pissed when I was a trainer.

I would like to know how this thing works and if it REALLY aids with FAT LOSS, not just the number on the scale.

The bodybugg™ is the most accurate device on the market today for measuring calorie expenditure outside of a clinical setting.

It utilizes a patented process for interpreting calorie burn called "sensor fusion" developed by BodyMedia, Inc. This process involves collecting a range of body-data using multiple physiological sensors instead of a single sensor, which is what other calorie estimation devices such as pedometers and heart rate monitors rely on. It's this multi-sensor approach that enables bodybugg™ to "see" the wearer's context (whether they are sitting, sleeping, jogging, walking, etc.) that makes bodybugg™ such a reliably accurate device for calorie expenditure estimation.

The Physiological Sensors
Here is a list of the sensors in the bodybugg™ followed by a short description of how they contribute to energy expenditure estimation.

Accelerometer - The accelerometer in bodybugg™ is a two-axis micro-electro-mechanical sensor (MEMS) device that measures motion. This motion can be mapped to forces (g-force) exerted on the body. By taking gravity and motion into account along with the other sensor data, the wearer's body context and true level of physical exertion can be accurately predicted.
Heat Flux - The bodybugg™ also contains a proprietary heat flux sensor located on the side that measures the amount of heat being dissipated by the body via a thermally resistant material. In short, this sensor measure how much heat the wearer's body is giving off. Heat flux is an important parameter because the body tends to heat up the faster it burns calories.
Galvanic Skin Response - Better known as GSR, this sensor is comprised of two "hypo-allergenic" stainless steel electrodes on the back of the armband that measure skin conductivity. Skin conductivity is how much an electrical current can pass between two points on the surface of the skin and is affected by sweat due to physical exertion as well as emotional stimuli such as psychological stress.
Skin Temperature - Skin temperature is measured by using a highly accurate thermistor-based sensor located on the back of the bodybugg™. Looking at continuous measurement of skin temperature in conjunction with data collected from the other sensors can reveal the body's core temperature trends which are affected by the level of a person's physical exertion or lack thereof.
The data these 4 sensors collect, in conjunction with the wearer's specific body parameters (age, gender, height, weight) enable the most accurate estimation of energy expenditure on the market today outside of a clinical setting.

We set the program on the computer.. a specific weight I would like to be by a specific day. In order to meet that goal, with my body paramters taken into account, I need to deficit about 1100 calories a day... Consume 1450, and burn 2550. That puts me at a about a 2 lb weight loss a week. I generally burn more than that per day, apx 3000-3400, and take in more, about 1800-2000 calories a day.

OK - so that is mathematical calculation with can be found online for free.

How about the whole dietary tracking and activity thing? How exactly is this information entered/estimated?

You do realize that I am not giving you, specifically a hard time Racheal. I just want to see how this gadget measures up with the T3 program that WOW tried to get me to pimp my clients back in the day.

I want to know why this gadget is so much better than entering same info to a free online tracker like, www.fitday.com.

Have you been paying attention to America for like...ohh, the past 30 years or so? People love convenience and are often willing to pay a premium for it. I can go out and chop my own firewood for next to nothing but if I can afford to just buy wood already chopped and maybe have someone deliver it my time and energy can be used for something else.

You can keep track of running miles easily on your own. However spending a few bucks on a Nike Plus to track and view mileage often results in people running more often. If it works then why not?

My bicycle computer tells me speed, distance, heart rate, cals burned, altitude, incline grade, air temperature, power out in watts and a bunch of other neat stuff.

I am all about convenience THAT WORKS. If all this convenience WORKED then wouldn't we all look like Cher? LOL

As a matter of fact I DO look like Cher, thank you very much.

Well from reading the product information provided I don't see how much different the thing is from the hand-held or scales where they measure your bf%. But if it makes people workout/eat better *just to see* how they can make this gadget change the readings then I suppose it isn't all bad...

Since no one body is the same I think the big advantage could be is a more accurate was of detecting how many cals you are burning per day and how.

Whether or not it truly works as they say it does I could not tell you.
