Just wondering what kind of excuses people come up with if say someone finds your stash of needles, say if you were to get 50 3ccs and some insulin needles and someone opened the box, what legitimate medical or whatever reason can you make up for having to have these?

Depends on who finds it . .

If it's the government or police and it's illegal for you to have them then you might be screwed.

If it's a girlfriend, friend, or someone who's not a cop . . any excuse would work.

thats a good addition. depends on your other hobbies. got guns or fish much? cleaning gun parts and fishing reals would work. or just get a foot locker and lock it up. keep the key, then you friend will have a good reason to keep her out.
