ESPN2 is showing the RM classic car auctions....

those auctions are always over priced. I think you would have to be dumb to buy one there, mainly they are just inflating the price of collecter cars to keep the value up.

41K for an early 60's VW van? c'mon now...................

exactly, did you see that lemans go for 280? It is only worth 280 because some jackass paid that much for it.

a kid on a 10 speed and a vw van could race...and only 2 people would know it.

HA! Try selling a car @ Barrett Jackson..He's a crook! He gets 18 % from sales of cars at his auction.

Hubby and his dad were there this year selling two cars. Bad year..really bad year for the sellers. 1957 Chevy and a 1978 Indy pace car w/ 115 ORG. miles on it !

RM was down the street from Barrett Jackson. They have a ton of auctions in that area.

$500,000 for a Boss 429 that went for $5,000 in 1967.

Fucking ridiculous.

Not sure which auction it was but I saw a '49 chevy go for $8,000. Had I been there I would have fucking bought it thing was awesome.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Ha. The restore work for most of them ain't cheap.

People pay tons for cars that are rare. Go figure.

Look @ the B.Jackson site. I know the guy who sold the twin 'stangs from Ohio. Diller is his last name. He sold ONE car last year FOR $475 thousand.

It's becoming harder and harder to find those "rare" babies w/ ONE owner on titles.

They don't pay tons in resto work. Maybe $50 grand tops. Anything over that is worthless.

$500K for a Mustang is ridiculous no matter what. Barrett Jackson is auction for auctions sake, people generally do NOT get good deals on cars there.

How is a $500K Mustang supposed to appreciate in value?

No way.

50k for restoration work? We talkin some piece of shit here? I'm talking BIG time restore work with all the fancy schmacy "awards" that people want with the cars aftwr thwy are restored. They live for those hard to get awards from car shows all over the country. It's VERY tough to get some of those awards, tis why people will pay for a car who has 'em.

Carrol Shelby "signed" Ted's car last year. Who can say they have a car Carrol Shelby himself signed and had a say in the restoration work? People with cash PAY for that kinda rare item.Hell, I love cars and if I had 475k I did not know what to do with, I would have bought that bitch.

I could care less what people spend on cars. As long as they continue to buy 'em.

One year to the next, you never know what people will be looking for. Mopower cars were the rage last year, this year they lost their value. Go figure.

Fucking dime a dozen Chevelles are going for 70 - 80K its a joke. Its like the housing market. Its wildly overvalued and it'll pop. Mark my words.

I don't see it happening. Who knows?

People love to buy cars that remind them of their childhoods, etc. They just can afford to spend more than you or I would. Well, I would if I won the lotto I 'd have me a early boxy Nova or a split window Vet.

There are a ton of people with tons of cash to spend on cars still.

Hubby met Stone Cold Steve Austin @BJ auction. His wife put the shits to him buying the twin stangs in fact.lol
