Erik's Impressive State of Mind...

Hi guys. I recently started training under the close supervision of Mr Doria, the 185-record braker, ex IPF athlete and current IPF judge. And guess what? I could not have managed to get this far without EF.
He is extremely strict, and only gives advice to those who he believes deserves it. This 100kg guy came over to him and said: Teach me how to dl?
He was like: "Why? go back to the curl rack"
He is totally in the 80's where extreme, full compoud lift-based workouts reigned supreme, and he is amazed by my mentality: viewing the benefits of compound lifts.

Basically, we think the same (although he is WAY MORE EXPERIENCED and knowledgeable than I am). Like he said: "Do some ab work" and before he finished, i said "Like the one where u go to declined bench and hold at mid point for 5 secs (needsize abs)"
And he was like: "Yeah, exactly that one"
Basically, I just wanted to express how ppl like Blut, Madcow2, Guiness, Cynical Simian and others have managed to prepare me for what is about to come.
Thank you guys, wholeheartedly.

:)

PS: I posted just to show that EF is applicable to real life situations.

Very cool. Personal instruction from a guy like that is a really unique opportunity. I'm sure you'll take full advantage of and enjoy it.

Oh, and that "curl rack" exchange was great. :FRlol:

Congrats, Erik.

I feel some envy for your position and hope you get on well with the instructor. It sounds as though he has respect for you. Remember always, though, that he can't train you, only you can do that. He can only guide you to train yourself. I hope that made sense. Good luck.

I am 100% sure of that blut.
Today I talked to him about EF and how you guys taught me what I know.
He smiled and said: "They taught u what is right. That is rare"
He is a great guy and he does respect me, just like I respect him.
It is a very very special and unique opportunity that I am having, and I will make full use of it. Very few ppl in my circle of friends actually see the importance or get the chance to experience the "underground" styles of training (i.e. compound lifts etc)
:)
Guys, we at EF rock the house!

Great story Erik. His exclamation at you being interested in pushing the big compound lifts is a sad reflection on the state of people's training in general these days.

Yup. He actually refuses to aid most ppl in my gym, he simply makes sure they do not get injured. This is because he feels that no-one knows how to train anymore. He becomes very excited and proud when he sees me doing compounds.
He is really a great great guy :)

any chance you can get him to post on EF? that would be useful for the rest of us :)

Hmmm I can try hehe. He has told me that he is in the process of reawakening the English Language in him (for he forgot most of it hehe) in order to get another certificate for powerlifting referee (I think there are many "degrees" of referee from what I understood). Also, I do not know if he uses a computer often. BUT... i can try nonetheless :)
He is a really knowledgeable and experienced guy, as well as a funny and in your face guy.
HEHEHE :)

Or you could just pass along some of the advice he gives you...maybe start a journal. I'd be interested the similarities and differences between what he has you doing and the programs that are popular here.

I already started noticing the differences and the similarities between both.
I will think abuot posting a journal here :)
Who knows...!
But I will definetely share knowledge through my posts, maybe on a thread-thread basis and possibly compile a huge thread at the end, given enough information is gathered.

Mr Doria wants me to compete in powerlifting :)
The idea sounds great to me hehe. I am only 18 and 79kg, so I would be in quite a comfortable category.

This week he is taking my 1 rep maxes:

Squat: 130kg - Must be @ 200kg for competition here in Brazil and we are planning on getting to 200kg by the end of this year.

Deads: I will post them today

Bench: Post them today later

:p

That's quite a compliment, you should feel pretty proud.

When you start to training, post up the routine he gives you :)

not trying to be arsey, but your going to add 70kg = 154lbs to your squat in less than a yr?

It's not so far-fetched once you add in lifting gear to his expected normal progress.

as i said, i'm not trying to call BS on him... just wanted to know more about the plan... yea, i didn't consider lifting gear.

still it's gonna be an incredible feat to see that.. totally inspiring!! dude.. remember to share with your good bros here at EF..

Yeah.
It is possible :(
Believe me :)

PS: Blut is correct, lifting gear will be added to my lifts. And remember, I am only 18, very dedicated and I usually progress very very fast in terms of strength gain. Especially because 130kg squat is like, my "untrained" newbies quat.

Lets see how it goes. Obviously it will require LOTS of hard work, but I am willing to strive for it.

Impossible is nothing!

Mr Doria once said:
"Never think: Oh shit I have to squat 200kg. Always think: I only have 70kg left"

Always remember that you are getting nearer to your goal, not that your goal is getting further away from you!
LETS GO MODAFUCKAS! :D
I will keep you guys posted on this thread.
Cheers,
Erik

UP for me posting my Squat program as of August!
right now I need a place to host the file... its an excel document
Please anyone?

Please note that the deadlift/bench progress program is not yet complete. Still working on that with Mr Doria.
Bye bye!

Monstrously inspiring Erik! Esp for someone in your shoes at this point in your life. When I was in college I was studying the very esoteric topic of astronomy at an extremely party oriented college in Arizona. However I was introduced to this female professor who is one of the world's foremost scientists in cometary astrophyics (study of comets). I worked under her for almost 3 years, paid my way thru college on a teaching / research assistantship under her, got 3 publications in academic journals and met Carl Sagan at a convention where I presented some of the first research around near ultraviolet band emissions from Halley's Comet. Anyway, long story short, I was exposed to greatness and got a chance to do some amazing things that maybe 100 people in the world at the time were doing. I chose to follow a different path after the Challenger shuttle blew up in 1986 ("space" didn't look like a good career at that point...) but I take that experience with me along with the size of the doors and the path behind it that this particular lady showed me. The stars and all the other astronomical objects are sooo far away and we know sooo little about them, but look at all the stuff we can look forward to learning!

Anyway, I grabbed this statement for my sig:

Always remember that you are getting nearer to your goal, not that your goal is getting further away from you!
LETS GO MODAFUCKAS!

thx! And looking forward to more of your posts!
