Empty stomach lifiting?

There are times when I do weight training with very little,i.e, one banana, or no food in my stomach due to time constraint.

Any thoughts on this? Please use arguments...

I always lift after eating, I usually give it 30-45 min. The bodys gotta use something for fuel, oh an i eat when I get home. But thats just what I do.

I don't recommend it man. I've lifted on an empty stomach ... and it just totally makes me feel weak. The body needs energy to push heavy shit around.
 
i always go on empty then eat right after the workout, maybe thats why i dont gain much weight. ill eat breakfast but by 1 or 2 when i work out my stomach is empty.

You always want to have a full meal about an hour or two before you lift. If you don't, you won't get anywhere near the benefits out of your workout.
 
I'd probably pass out if i didn't eat before i lifted. But even if you don't feel weak your body needs some protein and carbs for fuel if you want to be at your optimum.
 
I try to always eat before a workout, at the very least have some fruit for the carbs. The only day where i dont really like eating too much before is on squat day, but as long as a i spend some time warming up, i am ok.

But generally, what i am told is that post workout meal is MORE important that pre workout meal. I dont know if this is true, so i just eat all the time to make up for my ignorance.

i eat 30-45 min before and after workout, sometimes i'll just drink a protien shake right after a workout, then eat 45 min to an hour after that.

Use arguments? How 'bout common sense. Weightlifting uses glycogen. No food (carbs) = no glycogen.

Let your car run out of gas, then try to drive it.









..and yes, you're wrong. "TO EAT" in an infinitive. :D
 
I think it is always better to eat before workout, even if you are cutting.
Like Spatts said lifting uses glycogen.
From my experience you burn out more quickly if you don't eat before workout, you cannot lift as heavy.
I think the best pre workout meal would have some carbs and protein (the reason to eat protein as to do with the muscle breakdown that occur during weight lifting, i cannot explain this so well).
Usually i have some oatmeal and Whey protein before workout. (around 1 1/2 hours before). i mix a spoon of flax seed oil or some fish oil caps with it.

It couldn't have been said better.... Just kinda make sure not to over stuff yourself prior though... It might wanna come back up on ya..lol... Can't be wasting protein and calories now... Now go EAT!!!!
 
If you eat and you feel bloated as i do before training, I generally drink a carbo force or at least drink a high carb supplement for the training time and slam down a protein drink right after or a xxl for the big carbs and calories...I am all for eating, but i lose range of motion, burp and feel bloated, and that is just eating a cup of brown rice and half a chicken breast 30 minutes before when i used to eat...remember, you can supplement anything you need for traing except sleep...dont get me wrong, you do have to eat to grow, but you do not have to eat before you train....

I eat breakfast and then train 2.5 hours later. I don't feel bloated and am full of energy.
 
I have some nausea when training, so, I try not to eat 2-3 hours prior to training. Although I will have 2 scoops of a meal replacement with some water prior to training to keep my energy up.
 
Always try to lift on an empty stomach. B/c after lifting comes cardio, and I want the fat loss. I eat after my workout.

I used to work so intensely every single day that eating before my workouts (weights & plyometrics/sport drills) would mean certain throwing up. I need to start doing that shit again.
