As far as the Chairmen go, they have very little impact on your EF lives (I say EF lives, because they are not even a speck on your personal life). Unless you post on one of their threads, they have no control over your posts… I don’t really see how the members would be affected, to the point that it would be vital to include them in the selection process. The Chairmen have no real power over the members, this is why we didn’t see the need to have the members select them.
PS: Please don’t mention the IP issue again as it has been put to rest.

Some good questions. About Radar, we handle that internally. I will not say what I feel about Radar except to George or Radar himself. You would want that same courtesy extended to yourself if you were a Mod.
As far as Indy, I think he tried a little too hard to be "in the know" (as many Ana forum guys do) and came out looking like a suspect in the end... In reality, I don't think he really knew shit about anything or had any real info to give. He was just as baffled by unanswered e-mails as everybody was. He just wanted a little attention and paid for it with his prestige. I think anybody with 2 fucking brain cells would realize that Satch had so much momentum at the time of his departure, that if he meant to scam anybody, he did not need Indy’s help to do it. The guy was doing his thing well before Indy came into the scene and worked his way up to “knowledgeable vet”. Satch needed no help from anybody if he wanted to pull a scam (Not to say he ever did, I don't know anybody that got scamed myself). He just needed to take money and disappear, I see no room in such plan to leave anybody behind to answers questions… What is the point? You already left, why leave somebody behind to answer questions? And IF Indy was part of the scam. Why not skip town as well? Why stay behind to be badgered and completely torn apart online… Would YOU do that? It is so stupid I still wonder why people haven’t figured it out themselves. Unfortunately, being an employee of a legally registered company in the USA, and having knowledge about illegal activities is a LIABILY, yes a liability. I'm very easy to find, I'm sure LEO knows where our office is. The more I know about illegal shit, the worst I make things for myself and my company.
I want to know nothing about nobody, if asked by LEOs, I want to be able to say “I know nothing” with a clear conscious….. I’ll leave the detective work to the anonymous volunteers (Mods), who we only know by their screen names, and have no contact info for except an encrypted e-mail addy. I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful in getting involved with member's “drug deal” problems, but we are living in America post 9/11 and I am scared. I will not put my freedom at risk by getting mixed up in bullshit. I love my son too much to be taken away from him just so I can be called a "good bro"...

From what I can make out from the Chairman powers they basically get access to the mod board and recycle bin and almost complete control over their own threads. That seems to be about it. From Jafo's post, it seems they get three one-year Plats to dispense and can add three months to any other member's Plat renewal. The million Karmas is an extra sweetener as are the border and new stars.
It's completely moot as to whether it's worth $1200. I remember thinking that Plat wasn't worth paying for but here I am. We have a wide range of earnings on here and $1200 might be pocket change to some.
At $1200 a pop, though, it has to be exclusive to sell. Very few people would pay $1200 just for a Super-Plat and even fewer if 'just anyone' could get it. I could be wrong but I think the exclusive, hand-selection part of this is part of the appeal and marketing. Chairman powers aren't wide-reaching and, for a Chairman whose threads you tend to ignore, extend to no more than access to the recycle bin and a bit of inside information on the mod-board. I suspect they were hand-picked not on any 'worthyness' aspect but more on the likelyhood of responding favourably to the exclusive purchase.

As a former mod I have to say, it's a pretty thankless job. With almost every move you make you piss someone off. You can't make everyone happy, but hopefully you can explain why you do something.
Having said that, I do think that the chaimanship idea is not the best move that Elite has came up with. I always thought that what was talked about on the mod board was suppose to stay there. Now it's available to people just because they paid for it. Sorry, but if you thought you had leaks before, you haven't seen nothing yet.

In all seriousness, I have left EF for extended periods, almost a year at its longest, just didnt even think about EF.
I made Brothabill b/c my plat had expired on my previous account. I dont mind paying to support the site. A chatboard is meant to be fun and having had my own chatboard, it takes alot of work to keep it running. After being busy my board became defunct for lack of attention. It was a joke anyways, everyone could be a mod.
But, basically if you leave EF its saying you dont like the members here and dont want to interact with us.
This is just a spot on the internet superhighway. We build it, shape it, manage it, make it a community.
Its all up to the members. We don't really come to EF to get George's emails, we come here to waste some time and interact and read rather than watch tv or go out and get arrested. Pot of coffee and the keyboard.
Now, taking a break is one thing. I just disappear at times and not login but the admin. stuff. Its pretty hard to leave b/c of that when it takes alot of work to make a good chatboard. Trust me, I know, its a headache. I have a professional one as well that I have put together.
Its not worth the time and it feels like work. If I am working then I want to get paid. Do you work for free? That's the basic question.

hey guys... i was one of the first mods to be like 'wtf is this?' when it came to the chairman thing. but you know... first of all, its just a test at the moment, so the 8 that were chosen- its nothing personal against anyone who wasn't chosen. Only a few were needed- people who are trustworthy and don't cause problems. Are there plenty more like that? of course! i think redguru would have made a perfect candidate. humorme too. and samoth, lots of different people here. maybe better than one or two chosen, but oh well... this isn't a permanent position.
and in the long run, maybe it'll be a nice addition, who knows.

I don't know - I never get too deep in it.
I don't think EF is finished, its just changing. All things change over time. My job right now is changing and I don't like it - in fact I hate it, so I've decided to leave, but at least I can say I gave it a serious chance.
I think I'll stay around here to see what happens. It will come to light in the end whether it was a good change
