I know people that run their own court reporting business and make really good coin. One way to get more bang for your buck is to offer video taping for depositions as an additional service. It requires a bit of knowlege, some equipment and hiring another person, but since you are already hired by the Attorneys, it makes their life simpler for you to provide that additional service. Charge extra for it, plus extra for any video or audio copies. The digital camcorders available today and wireless mic equipment provide excellent picture and sound quality for a reasonable investment. Something to think about...

Only real difference is in the additional courses (non-philosophy)

For the B.S. I had to take additional mathematics (which I had from starting as a computer science major) and one physics class.
