The book Rough Stone Rolling is a social biography of Joseph Smith. It's an extremely interesting book. Also, No Man Knows My History goes through a lot of the social and public issues surrounding his life as well.

He really is a fascinating person to study, both in the religious aspects and non religious aspects.

Look what happened to Jesus and all the apostles in the early church.

The exact same thing. False allegations, false imprisonment and eventually martyrdom.

I bet Jesus and the Apostles faced a lot more crap than the Bible mentions. Jesus' life was threatened several times that we know about.

Given the "recent" history of Joseph Smith, we have documents of pretty much everything that he did and people did with/against him.

There's no claim of anyone seeing a resurrected Joseph Smith that I know of.

Though, Mormon theology would suggest it, it would be generally accepted that he has taken on an immortal form like Jesus did. Not only him, but anyone who has been baptized into the church and has moved on from this life. That's why we have temples. Because earthly ordinances such as baptism are required prior to resurrection, that work must be done for everyone, and by everyone, I mean everyone that has ever lived. The church has baptized on behalf of deceased persons in the hundreds of millions if not billions. Genealogical records done by our church are the most thorough and extensive archive in the entire world by a long shot.

True story-

When I was a kid my brother and I were at home in the summer and these 2 fucking idiots in their cheap ass black suits and white shirts come to the door. My brother answers it and they hand him some pamphlet and start talking to him about wtfever they talk about and he stands there and glances at the pamphlet..crumples it up and throws it at them and slammed the door in their face.

They sat out front of our house for a minute writing something down...I can only assume maybe it's like a note they take back to let everyone else know not to knock on the door of our house.

My father was raised very old school, hardcore Catholic in Maui. He went to a private school where nuns would beat them on the knuckles with wooden rulers back in the 50's.

Anyways, flash forward to the early 90's, my older sister used to get in a lot of trouble in HS, and she would let the JW's come in the house as they would listen to her vent. When the old man found out, he was furious. He would threaten these old ladies, physical remove them from the house. Threaten to kill them, etc. Funny shit.

Technically, no. we don't recognize the book of mormon as a christian text, and any old school christian has the same basic belief that the one and only way to heaven is to be saved and accept jesus is your savior.

We also think ol' joseph smith fugged up, because a huge part of the book of revelations states that no living man may add or take away to the written word of god

I was raised Southern Baptist, which is like the hardcore bible beating revival throwing fire and brimstone preaching scream at you type of shit, and they all think Mormans are gonna burn in hell

A Christian is one who prescribes to and proclaims to believe in the teachings of Christ. It's pretty self-explanatory.

Mormons have historically been left out of this group by other Christ-believing faiths because we reject the Trinitarian notion of the attributes of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Which notions were written by politicians in the 4th century, and not by Christ or his apostles and is not even Biblically accurate. (See the Nicean Creed).

btw I have only ever smoked anything, salvia or otherwise, a handful of times, and nothing in the last 8 years. Never done hard drugs and barely drink alcohol. Never had a job that didn't test the fuck out of me.

So didn't God the Father and God the Son tell Joseph Smith to not join in church because none at the time were acceptable in his "first vision" and then he tried to join the presbyterian church like 8 years later and then a few years after that he tells everyone about his vision?

Didn't he find like 6 metal plates buried Illinois, and began a "translation" of them identifying them as some sort of ancient record and identified the author as a descendant of Pharaoh and it ended up being that some local farmers later confessed that they had manufactured, engraved and buried the plates themselves as a hoax.
 
So how do the Christians, Baptist and Mormon(s) in here feel about these new Christian churches that are popping up and welcoming everyone, no matter the race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.? Basically, the "god loves everyone" sect.

You are taking about the Kinderhook Plates.

No documentation ever states that he tried to translate them, that is credible anyways. There is documentation that he requested they be sent to scholars for authentication before he would spend time with them.

You gotta remember, back then, people were calling BS on him all the time, so just because a 3rd party document from 175 years ago says he tried to "translate" them and was fooled, could be an outright lie. Haters lied about him in court just to get him arrested, only to be released later the same day because of false allegations.

Since there is conflicting stories regarding what actually did happen, (Some claimed he was fooled, some say he didn't want anything to do with them until they were authenticated), you can't really say what really happened because it's a he said/she said type of bs.
