DON'T WORK THROUGH THE PAIN....get it checked out PLEASE!!

Just got back from the Dr's office. I hurt my left shoulder about 3 weeks ago, and have been working through the pain hoping it would get better by itself. Well, bad new folks. I have a severely strained rotater cuff (possibly torn). I'm out for at least 3 weeks, to rest it to see if it gets better. If it doesn't, I could be going under the knife. :bawling: :(

Good advice for my recent Hemorrhoid problem...
No Squats or Leg work for a couple of weeks.

As for going under the knife, well that will take some thought.

RCs take a good long while to heal bro. If you end up foregoing the surgery, be sure to give yourself enough time and don't start lifting on it too quick.

Did you see my thread when I hurt my shoulder one week before my cycle started?

I was doing behind neck shoulder presses and somehow when I went to rack the weight, I got the right side of the weight on the rack, but I overshot the left side of the rack, my left shoulder popped and then went downward with a sick noise like velcro coming apart. I just dropped the weight and sat there. I had no feeling in my entire arm. Only in my fingertips which felt like someone was poking a needle in the tips of each. I tried as I might to raise my arm and it was useless. Just hanging there. A few minutes later, I was still without feeling, but I have an extremely warm flushed feeling to come up my arm to my head. Fucking scarey.

Now though, There is no pain and I am stronger than ever on the shoulder presses. Kind of weird.

That's what I'm trying to do. I don't wanna go under....

Hey, a friend of mine mildly tore both of his rotators. He didn't go under the knife. He did a lot of rotator cuff work and hardly ever went up to 315 on bench (he'd been pushing 485 previously). It took him about a year and a half to recover, but he pushed 520 the other day with no pain.

Big Buck-

Did you know it was fucked when you did it, or was it an injury that got worse from being aggravated? I have been having some probs with my shoulders but it has always been like that.

Thats good advice. Working through the pain with my back put me basically out for over a year. Couldn't do shit

yeah, my right shoulder's been messed up for about 16 months. first the back cuff for the first 6 months, then moved to the front. i rested it and tried therapy exercises for it but there was scar tissue and it was strained. i lost about an inch off my arms (muscle) from taking the summer off lifting for it, then gained it back in a month. then the strain moved to the front of my shoulder. it's been that way since last august. i'm trying to take it easy on it, but i want to maintain muscle, instead of just not lifting at all.

Did you get an MRI done? If you're RC was torn, I think you'd know it. Did the doc do the test where you push up and in while he resists? Did you have the pain while you were doing it or after? RC pain usually manifests after you are through with a movement.

Yeah, she did the resist tests. I had pain while doing them. She said to lay off the weights for at least 3 weeks, ice for first 5 days, 3x a day, then heat as needed...and she gave me some naps for the inflammation. Also, to start slowly doing rotator cuff exercises.

I tore my left rc partially in 96. I went to the doc that week because of the pain. He gave me Motrin(crap) that didn't do much. I got bummed enough to stop lifting until it healed- even holding onto the handles for the leg press or leg extension hurt. By the time I felt better my gym membership had expired.

BUCK, i disagree.. train AROUND the pain... fuck surgery!!! i have a couple docs that offered it... and guess what? they havent seen me since and wont until i have no choice...

2 superspinatus tears here...

I injured my RC years ago, saw a doctor and a chiropractor for nearly a year with no relief. Then a friend gave me a set of exercises and the pain was gone in a few weeks. If you've actually torn it, that won't help.

How exactly do you train around a rotator cuff tear?

My shoulder hurt so bad I could even squat because it hurt to hold the bar. Zero shoulder exercises. No dips. No benching. No flyes of any variation, couldn't do any back work.

I could do leg extensions;)

this post is about 2 weeks late

why i tried to train through back pain i dont know. thankfully my back isnt hurting anymore and im gonna try training it tommorow

I've had pain in my left elbow and forearm, apparently tendonitis, for months. I've taken several layoffs and it's done no good. It doesn't seem to get worse but it doesn't get better either. I'm a bit worried because I've started a fina and test cycle and fear I'll strain it badly if I experience a big leap in strength.

I had tennis elbow about 8 years ago and it hung around a full year before it got better. This is essentially the same, I think.

How did you guys injure your cuffs?

Frighteningly enough I did it in an unusual place: learning to rollerblade in Manhattan. I never lived in NY I just worked in the area. There was a skateboard/ rollerblade shop near Chambers Street that also gave classes not far from the store. I was there with my ex(bitch) girl and began to pick it up slowly. I was practicing braking when I reached the fence of the asphalt lot we were in, and grabbed it. My feet went backward from beneath me and I was still holding onto the fence, basically pitting my rotator cuffs against gravity and my deadweight. My right shoulder is fine. My left took a licking.
