i think im catching a cold but i dont know if i should stop working out. my friend told me not to so i kept going to the gym. i sneeze a few times a day and my nose is runny so i think im getting sick (im careful to keep my hands clean and clean off machines when im done using them) my question is will lifting give me a better chance of catching the cold, will it not affect me, or will it make my immune system stronger? thanx in advance

I think it depends what state you are in...
If you are overtraining/close to overtraining.. I think it will put you over the line and the cold and workouts will get progressively worse...
Somebody was telling me the other day(i think on here) that working out can actually help get rid of colds... I'd assume if you were in a well rested state..
I personally always workout even if Im feelin a little under the weather...
But I couldn't give you a 100% accurate answer on this one... maybe somebody else has some more scientific answers for you.

I never work out when feeling bad. Think about it, your body is trying to fight off a cold, which it would have already done before you even noticed it. If your immune system was working full steam. Now you have to recover from that cold and repair broken down muscles all at the same time.

Working out while you're sick is never a good idea. For one, lifting weights will rob your body of the energy needed to fight off the infection, virus, whatever. Secondly, if you're training while you're sick, you're not getting much from the workout anyway.

Ive been to the gyma few times with a cold.(Runny Nose, Minor Cough).

And for some reason when i hit the gym, the symtoms almost vanished, and were really minor.

Then as I left the gym, 15 minutes later the symtoms returned.

I have no clue how this happened.

..and you are spreading your virus to everyone else using the equiptment regardless of whether or not you wipe it down. Be considerate to others and quarantine yourself for like a week or something :D

sometimes when I just have a little cold or something i will still lift. Weird thing is that it makes me feel better, or atleast for a while. Kinda same thing that HSlifter said. Its your choice, but if your feelin weak I would just take a week off or so,

Mike

I think you should go by the rule, if its above the neck go for it, if its more don't of course I workout at home, so I don't have to worry about spreading my germs, so you might want to stay home anyway
