i disagree with your latter statement. public space is exactly that - public space. i think that each and every religious (and non religious) organisation made up of members of the public has an equal, yet proportionate right to set up displays in public spaces according to whatever city bylaws govern the use of that space.
ie in a city made up of 90% christians and 10% voodoo religious populations should have an equal right to apply for use of public space, though the city bylaws should have an inclusion that space utilisation be equitable - ie 90% of the space for the christians, 100% of the time, or the other way around. (assuming theyre the only people that want to use that space)
situations like this piss me off. people should frankly learn to mind their own damn business, as well as learn to coexist with others. if that jew has the right to get annoyed about christmas because it conflicts with his religious beliefs or idea of history, then i should deny his son antibiotics when he comes in with a slashed up penis after circumcising the poor bastard because it conflicts with my religious beliefs, as well as my beliefs about appropriate custom in the realm of good parenting *and* knee him in the balls on the way out, just for good measure
double standard having buffoons
