Does anyone train by instinct?

I usually don't have a specific plan when I get to the gym. I know which body parts I'm going to train but I don't have a set routine. As a powerlifter I hit the powerlifts first but I don't usually have a goal of sets and reps. Sometimes I go heavy, sometimes light. I get more structured when it gets closer to contest time. Does anyone else do this?
 
Yep, that's pretty much exactly how I train. I do my deads and squats or pressing movements first, and then move on to whatever I decide to do. I try to more or less keep it the same for a good 1-2 months straight though and will focus on particulare bodyparts when trying to bring them up - I'm not a powerlifter.
