That's the problem. When you begin therapy, because you start to look at things directly, you can actually get more depressed. What happens is that antidepressants energize the client before they begin having an effect on depression. The result can be a big increase in anxiety -- and, particuarly in the case of people under 18, an increase in suicidal thinking. The irony of depression is that it typically robs pepole of the energy to kill themselves even if they think about it.
