does anyone here actually run? i need opinions on new running shoes

ok, i need to buy some new running shoes, because my current pair is shot to shit. i have put more miles on them this past year than i have my car (seriously).

well, i need some opinions (from those who actually run) on some sneakers.

i usually get new balance or asics, but i am thinking about picking up a pair of salomons. anyone ever try these?

i don't mind spending $80-$120...but that is about as high as i will go.

Mizuno's are my favorite, but they don't last as long as some others. They feel fan-fuggin-tastic though.

my mizunos were great until i got them wet. once i got them wet, the insert no longer stayed in place and would CONSTANTLY shift while running. i had to glue them down with super glue, and even that was only a temporary fix.

also, the webbing at the toe ripped where it is sewn on to the main body of the shoe.

i should really do more trail running, especially since i live in one the best areas in the nation to do it.

but no, it seems i prefer the beautiful sights of campus, shitty little houses, and blockbuster.

I have heard alot of great things about Saucony....I used Nike's but they are narrow which I need....
I've never been able to fit a nike shoe very well. I have terribly flat, narrow, feet. I have a prescription orthotic to wear with whatever shoes I wear.

There's a huge difference between the $120 sauconys and the $39 ones. The $120 are tremendously more durable and comfortable.

Asics for me. I don't like Nike at all...narrow with high arches.

You have to try them on too many variables with arch, heel and gait/pronation.

I just go to the store and literally try on every sneaker until I get that OHHhhhhhhhhhh yeah that's the one and when I find one I like I buy 2 or 3 pairs.

I have 2 pairs of Nike and 1 pair of Asics - the second Nike just replaced an old pair of Sauconys that I just didn't want to give up.

Walk around the store and don't think that they will break in and fit better - buy the ones that fit like a glove in the store and bring your running socks.

Oh and as for the Salomons - never had their sneaker but I have these and they are SWEET!

I am running in a 26 mile marathon in may.. i have new balance w/ an extra padded sole

Go to store with a dude that knows their shit. They should ask to see a pair of your old running shoes - by looking at the wear pattern they'll get an idea of your gait - heel striker, hit the outside, etc.

They'll use that to vector you to a show based on how you run. Good sales folk won't just pimp a single line - they'll give you a range to choose from.

Saucony Omni 5 Moderate - $175.00 Canadian
But the expert sales guy has to watch you walk and run around the store.
Make sure you go to a place that only sells to runners. (well that is if you run)

After I got these shoes, I doubled my distance the first friggin day. My old shoes took energy away from my legs.

With these new ones I also shaved 3 min off my 5k race time! and I'm OLD :)

yeah, i know. i went to the boulder running company, and they make you walk/run a treadmill so they can analyze your foot strike.

i just want to try a new line, since my rather expensive mizunos gave out on me at a very unfortunate time/place.

last pair were saucony grid stabil, current is nb 856 or some shit. but i've over-used both pair, probably, rather than replacing them every 300-500 miles. both were bought at a specialty running store that did a treadmill gait analysis. i have fallen arches, so i've gone with the motion-control/stability shit in the past, but i wonder if it really matters.

Really?? I was going to say Mizunos, I've had a pair for like 3 years and besides being dirty, they have little to no wear on them at all.

what ever you do DONT get Nike if you want a functional shoe, I dont know a real runner that would even consider wearing them.

Mizuno or New Balance would be my choice.

it matters, I have fallen arches too, totally flat feet.

I couldnt run without motion-control/stability shoes or my knees would hurt so bad I would give up running. Only drawback to them is they are usually pretty heavy shoes.

HAHAHAA

Shoe snob.

Real runners don't run in one pair of sneakers for years.

Forgive me - I'm really feisty today.
How you feel about Nike - I feel about Reebok.

I prefer Saucony and NB... I've tried Nike, but didn't care for them for sprints. I've always ended up going back to NB for some reason.

Did your foot slip around in the heel area?

Mine do that - Asics gels are sweet but I only like them outdoors for some reason. I loved my last pair of Sauconys but I couldn't find another pair that fit right - GAH!

I didn't have a problem with the NB when I added the inserts in them. (can't remember the brand though) The reason I didn't get another pair of Saucony's is the same as you... Couldn't find another pair that fit comfy. I tried Nike, but the width just didn't cut it for me, and something about the arc in them were terribly uncomfortable.

Its time for a new pair of running shoes for me... mine are shot! I've never tried the Asics gels... I do my running outdoors, try to stick to sprints in the grass but find myself on the pavement here and there. I'm gonna try some and see how they feel.

Try on a lot of them and if different sizes...

Bunny I know likes them too.

there are a lot of things that need to be considered when purchasing a running shoe.

your body weight:

running surface:

heel strike: do you pronate or supinate: pronation is most common you can tell by looking at your old sneaks and seeing if they wear on the inside of the heel or the outside

your feet: wide, narrow, high arch, flat foot, high instep

I ran 3.5 miles 2 nights ago. Think I'm gonna start doing that again once per week.

EF is not a running forum :)

lol

true...

I am not a 'runner' by sport, but do it for my training. I try to find the best shoes that I feel comfy in for me to do so. I'm NO expert at it and believe you me... not doing a marathon anytime soon. But still like to be comfortable when I do my sprints and sled pulling.

They invented bicycles so we wouldn't have to run.

The only time you'll see me running is when something is chasing me.

you leave yourself wide open all the time.... LOL

shoes are really a personal choice...it all depends on your foot, what works for one does not work for another...
